Summary

Kaidou, also known as the world's Strongest Creature, is the Governor-General of the Beast Pirates and one of the Four Emperors ruling over the second half of the Grand Line, known as the New World.

From his base on Onigashima Kaidou commands a massive, 20,000 strong crew filled with both regular soldiers and SMILE Devil Fruit users, along with further support from Wano's samurai. Having been in a partnership with Kurozumi Orochi for over 20 years, he struck the shogun and the partnership in the wake of revealing his New Onigashima Project.

Kaidou is also a former member of the legendary pirate crew known as the Rocks Pirates, which ruled the seas until their defeat 38 years ago, and would give rise to some of the most powerful and influential pirates in all the seas. On the day of the crew's fall, Kaidou was given his Devil Fruit, the Uo Uo no Mi, Model: Seiryu by fellow Rocks member and future Emperor Big Mom.

Kaidou is infamous for his immense durability and sheer inability to die, a fact that has made him attempt suicide as a hobby. The state of the world and his own near invulnerability have made him quite bored, and he seeks to start the greatest war in history to remedy it. He is bold to the point of even wanting to intercept his fellow Emperor Whitebeard in the later's bid to save Ace from Marineford. The only people to have given him permanent scars are the immensely powerful swordsmen Kozuki Oden and Roronoa Zoro.

He is the father of Yamato, and is currently in an alliance with Big Mom due to their shared goal of conquering the world.

Due to his actions and role, he is the primary antagonist of the Wano Country Arc, and one of the central antagonist of the Four Emperors Saga.

His bounty sits at 4,611,100,000 Berries, the highest for any living individual and third highest known in history.

Superhuman (One of his main strengths that has been highlighted time and time again is his monstrous stamina and pain tolerance, which has undoubtedly contributed to his title as the world's "Strongest Creature". Kaidou is introduced as a man who challenged the Marines and Four Emperors and was caught 18 times-- and endured over a thousand tortures. He was sentenced to death forty times using various methods, all of which he has survived. His hobby is "suicide". Characters weaker than him have fought for days on end (from five to ten days), and he fought Big Mom for at least a day, emerging with only minor damage and displayed no signs of fatigue. During the raid of Onigashima, the Red Scabbards were to accomplish the rare feat of piercing his skin and drawing blood from with their swords and attacks, although these wounds were shown to have little, if any, effect on Kaidou. He could withstand Raizo's Maki Maki no Mi redirecting the force of his own Bolo Breath at close range, as well as assaults from Nekomamushi and Inuarashi's Sulong-enhanced attacks, Kawamatsu’s Amano-gawa, Izou's Dangirigan, and Kikunojo's Zansetsu-gama, eventually requiring Kin'emon, Denjiro, Inuarashi and Ashura Doji to combine their attacks in the form of a Togen Totsuka to put him down, which he still didn't fall from as he stated that the injuries to be minor in comparison to when Oden inflicted a massive scar on him before proceeding to begin his counterattack. Later, after defeating the Scabbards and generating Flame Clouds to lift Onigashima with over 35,000 people on it and move the island to Wano, he proceeded to engage in another lengthy battle with members of the Worst Generation (Luffy, Zoro, Law, Kid, and Killer), where despite taking even more lasting damage, Kaidou continued fighting regularly, only becoming irritated rather than alarmed by their growing ability to damage him numerous times, either through brute force or bypassing his defenses, one of which being enough to fatally wound someone of Dolflamingo's caliber and would have kill him if not for his ability to mitigate the damage. Despite Luffy's increased strength and skill with Haōshoku Infusion, Kaidou was able to match him for dozens of minutes before eventually defeating him. Following that, he began his search for Kozuki Momonosuke, defeated Kin'emon again, fought Yamato in a lengthy battle, and engaged in his second battle with Luffy that night. Even after enduring more attacks that were greatly enhanced by advanced applications of Busōshoku and Haōshoku Haki, and despite being weakened by still carrying Onigashima with his Flame Clouds, Kaidou was able to defeat Luffy once more. Following that, he engaged in a skirmish with the Ninja-Pirate-Mink-Samurai Alliance and Marco, before being dragged into one last showdown with Luffy, this time the latter having assumed his Gear 5th, which is considered the pinnacle of what he can do. He fought Gear 5th Luffy for an extended period of time, enduring Luffy stretching through his body, hitting vital spots like his eyes, brain and organs, as well as numerous attacks coated with Busōshoku and Haōshoku Haki. After all of this, it took Luffy's most powerful attack to overpower Kaidou's Kaen Daiko and finally put him down)

Intelligence: Above Average (Kaidou should be quite intelligent as a Yonko, as he has large territories to manage and has to take care of his massive crew. He is revered in Wano as the "Wise King". Already as a child he was an accomplished warrior)

Haki: There are normally two types of Haki regular people can tap into: the Kenbunshoku Haki which allows individuals to sense the presence of others, and Busōshoku Haki which allows individuals to create an invisible armor around them. There is however a third type of Haki, Haōshoku Haki, that only a few individuals can use. Kaidou is one of these people.

• Kenbunshoku Haki (Color of Observation): He was capable of detecting the Haki coming from Enma, sensed the "voices" of the supernovas in the wake of his and Big Mom's combined attack which enabled him to tell they were still alive and felt Big Mom loss while fighting Luffy unlike the young rookie. Kaido could see into the future thus evade Snakeman's attacks.
• Busōshoku Haki (Color of Armaments): Kaidou is an immensely powerful user of Busōshoku Haki, which he is capable of imbuing into his kanabo. His Busōshoku Haki was strong enough to damage Luffy who hardened both of his arms. He is capable of utilizing the advanced application of projecting his Busōshoku Haki out from his kanabo, allowing him to strike opponents many meters in front of him with devastating power without the need to make direct contact. His Haki was so strong that Law couldn't affect him with his Room ability.
• Haōshoku Haki (Color of the Conquering King): Kaidou's proficiency with this power is immense, his showcase of his Haōshoku Haki was displayed when he clashed with Big Mom on Onigashima producing an immense haki clash that shook Onigashima and split the heavens, it could even be seen far away from the island. Most notably, Kaidou is one of the few powerful individuals able to imbue their Haōshoku Haki into objects such as his kanabo, which is signified by thin lightning-like streams of dark energy emanating from the imbued areas. This imbuement allows him to dramatically increase his attack power as a supplement to his natural physical strength and Busōshoku Haki.

Kongo Kabura: An attack used by Kaidou where he swings forward Hassaikai to launch a long-ranged, projectile-like shockwave at an opponent. When first used against Yamato, the attack proved powerful enough to violently blow away the latter in their hybrid form, despite Yamato blocking the attack. In the Viz manga, this attack is called Vajra Arrow.

Raimei Hakke: Kaidou charges toward his opponent at great speed, swinging Hassaikai horizontally, one-handed or two-handed to strike them with devastating force. The attack is so fast that, even after seeing the future, Luffy was only half-successful in dodging it. Additionally, Kaidou can imbue his kanabo with both Haōshoku and Busōshoku Haki for the attack, which causes a visible trail of dark lightning to exude from the weapon. When first used against Luffy in his Boundman state, the attack knocked him unconscious in one hit. The Viz Manga calls the attack Thunder Bagua.

• Horai Hakke: A seemingly stronger version of Raimei Hakke used by Kaidou while in his Shuron Hakke Satsuriku Jogo mode. In the Viz translation, the attack is called Thunder Bellow Bagua.
• Daiitoku Raimei Hakke: The strongest variant of Raimei Hakke. This technique was first used against Luffy in his Gear 5th. Daiitoku is the Japanese name of Yamāntaka, one of the Five Wisdom Kings in Vajrayāna Buddhism. In the Viz translation, the attack is called Destroyer of Death Thunder Bagua.

Kosanze Ragnaraku: An attack performed by Kaidou in his Human-Beast Form. Wielding Hassaikai two-handed, he jumps into the air and quickly spins his weapon above his head as he imbues it with Haōshoku Haki, making it exude black lightning. He then, while descending, swings his club down with great force, smashing his foe into the ground. The move's first demonstration came against Luffy, who took the blow straight on and was knocked out by it. The Viz manga calls the attack Conqueror of Three Worlds Ragnaraku.

• Warai Jogo Ragnaraku: A seemingly stronger version of Konsanze Ragnaraku used by Kaidou while in his Shuron Hakke Warai Jogo mode, where he additionally appears to imbue his kanabo with lightning for extra power. In the Viz manga, this is called Lightning Hammered Ragnaraku.

Gundari Ryuseigun: An attack used by Kaidou in his Human-Beast form, where he spins Hassaikai to build up momentum, imbues it with Haōshoku Haki, and then delivers a series of high-speed swings with his weapon, barraging the enemy. In the Viz translation, the attack is called Kundali Dragon Swarm.

Uo Uo no Mi, Model: Seiryu: Kaidou ate a Devil Fruit referred to as a Mythical Zoan type, which is an immensely unique type of Zoan Devil Fruit said to be even rarer than Logia. It allows Kaidou to transform into a hybrid and full version of an Azure Dragon at will. As with all Zoans, the user's transformation significantly boosts their physical abilities. In addition, the user can create and control various elements as a dragon in both forms and has the ability to conjure Flame Clouds with which the user can travel through the air by using them as footholds, effectively enabling flight or use them to lift up other structures.

• Bolo Breath: Kaidou's most frequently seen attack, which has him gather fire inside his mouth before "breathing" it out into a huge, conical blast toward his target of choice. This blast travels rapidly and is extremely powerful. It can instantly decimate large structures like a castle's ruins while surrounding terrain like mountains are blown to bits. When used in his human-hybrid state, Kaidou's Bolo Breath is much smaller in scale. In the Viz manga the technique is called Blast Breath.
• Kaifu: An attack where Kaidou blows strongly, thereby creating powerful crescent wind blades that can easily cut through solid stone as well as human bodies. The move was first seen being used in Kaidou's fight against the Nine Red Scabbards on the roof of Onigashima's Skull Dome, severing Kikunojo's left arm, but was not named until Kaidou used it against the Worst Generation members on the same roof. The Viz translation of the attack is Demolition Gust.
• Tatsumaki: Kaidou spins his serpentine body into a coil to summon several tornadoes around him. Because of their wind speed, these tornadoes can pull people away from the ground and within Kaidou's range in midair, where he may chomp down on them. The technique was first seen in use against the Worst Generation members on the Skull Dome's roof. It was effective in capturing a defenseless Monkey D. Luffy, but Roronoa Zoro was able to neutralize it with his own Kokujo: O Tatsumaki technique. In the Viz translation, the technique is called Dragon Twister.
  • Tatsumaki Kaifu: An attack that combines Tatsumaki and Kaifu. Kaidou spins the lower portion of his elongated dragon body at great speeds, simulating a tornado himself. He then blows crescent wind blades towards his own spinning body, making the blades fly unpredictably in various directions. This move was first seen being used in Kaidou's fight against the Worst Generation. The Viz manga calls the attack Dragon Twister Demolition Breath.
• Kaen Daiko: Kaidou breathes a large amount of flames from his mouth, forming a giant fire dragon over his original dragon body. The heat of his fire dragon near-instantly melts everything that it comes into contact with, preventing opponents from touching him, to which Luffy, a user of advanced Busōshoku Haki is able to counter this due to not having to make physical contact. In the Viz Manga, this is called Flame Dragon Torch.
  • Shoryu: Kaen Hakke: Kaidou lunges upwards in his Kaen Daiko state. In the Viz Manga, this is called Rising Dragon: Flame Bagua.

Bolo Breath

By consuming alcohol, Kaidou is able to enter a state called Shuron Hakke (Drunken Dragon Bagua). In this state, his movements become more unpredictable, he switches rapidly between his Zoan forms, and his Haki becomes stronger. The Shuron Hakke state has various modes based on his drunken moodswings.

• Warai Jogo: A laughing drunk mode. When using this mode against Luffy, Kaidou attacked him with a version of his Ragnaraku technique. In the Viz translation, this is called Lightning Hammered.
• Ochikomi Jogo: A depressed drunk mode. When using this mode against Luffy, Kaidou attacked him with Tatsumaki Kaifu. In the Viz translation, this is called Drowning His Sorrows.
• Naki Jogo: A crying drunk mode. When using this mode against Luffy, Kaidou attacked him with Raimei Hakke. In the Viz translation, this is called Tears in His Beer.
• Okori Jogo: An angry drunk mode. When using this mode against Luffy, Kaidou attacked him with Bolo Breath and Gundari Ryuseigun. In the Viz translation, this is called Drunken Rage.
• Amae Jogo: A begging drunk mode. When using this mode against Luffy, Kaidou began speaking flirtatiously and begged Luffy to quit punching him. In the Viz translation, this is called Drunken Beggar.
• Nusubito Jogo: When using this mode against Luffy, Kaidou used his serpentine body in full beast form to copy Luffy trajectory changing punches. In the Viz translation, this is called Drunken Thief.
