Only by the bravery of those who put loyalty above glory is our home kept safe.

Summary

Born on a plane ruined by strife and darkness, this white mage left home when her Planeswalker spark ignited—and she never returned. Elspeth specializes in community and fortification, wielding spells that build and bolster mighty armies, while protecting them from harm. Elspeth wants nothing more than to sheathe her sword for the last time, and find a plane to call home. Violence and destruction have a tendency to follow her, and she is constantly driven to take up arms and wield her defensive magic in the service of those that need her protection.

Elspeth came to Theros from a war-ravaged plane, hoping to find the one thing that has eluded her—peace. Under the watchful protection of gods, she hoped that Theros would not be in need of guardians like her. But when she arrived, Elspeth was quickly identified as an outsider with powers and skills that further distanced her from the natives of Theros. In the wilderness between two city-states, Elspeth was attacked by a monstrous hydra, which had been responsible for the deaths of countless warriors. Elspeth engaged the hydra and, after a bitter fight, emerged triumphant. Afterward, she wanted nothing more than to fade into anonymity. But on the Theros, the best laid plans of mortals often come second to those of the gods. Her feat of heroism has captured the attention of Heliod, god of the sun, who seeks to make her his champion.

Able to nullify summoning and dispel mind manipulation, Able to nullify regeneration Via Reprisal), Reactive Power Level (Becomes more powerful if she is fighting alone Via Ardent Plea), Fire Manipulation, Precognition (Capable of Scrying), Invulnerability, Resistance to Existence Erasure (Like all Planeswalkers, she can survive brief exposure to the Blind Eternities, the merest touch of which can annihilate other living beings. Elspeth also survived for an extended period of time in the Underworld, which erodes the physical forms of things that reside within it.), Disease Manipulation, Biological Manipulation, and Transmutation (Immune to the effects of Phyrexis, which biologically transmutes those infected by it into hybrid mechanical artifact creatures), Mind Manipulation, Memory Manipulation, Petrification (Unaffected by spending a significant amount of time in the Underworld, which erodes memories, personality, and the physical form of things that reside within it, to the point that even if one escapes the underworld they will have no memory of it or their previous life as their memories remain in the Underworld), Fate Manipulation and Causality Manipulation (Unaffected by Calix' causality and fate manipulation)

Regularly sparred with Daxos and later killed him with a skewer on accident.Traded blows with Rhordon the Rageblood after he had received a boon from Mogis.), Higher with Magic (Her magic far surpasses that of nameless Esper mages capable of conjuring a massive thunderstorm and causing earthquakes instantly. Her magic amplified normal soldiers to the point that they could harm Polukranos. Capable of summoning an Archon, and her Archon is capable of amplifying her power to an unknown amount.), At least Multi-Solar System level with Godsend (Godsend has the potential to destroy all of Nyx if it falls into the wrong hands. All of the gods in the Pantheon of Nyx were terrified of what would happen if one of them got their hands on the weapon. In her fight with Xenagos she destroyed large swaths of Nyx with her sword swings.) | Island level (Should be comparable to her pre-resurrection self. Fought and defeated Calix multiple times.), Higher with Magic, At least Multi-Solar System level with Shadowspear (Shadowspear was formed from the shadow of Heliod's spear Khrusor and became conceptually identical to it in power.)

Should be comparable to Ajani), Higher with Magic (Able to amplify her own speed with her magic. Striking Strength: Island level, Higher with Magic | Island level, Higher with Magic

Durability: Island level, Higher with Magic (Her magic amplified Knight-General Rafiq to the point that Malfegor couldn't damage him. Enhanced her physical durability to the point that Heliod's magic couldn't harm her, though Heliod was not trying to actively kill her. After being amplified by the magic of her Archon she was able to just barely survive a blow from Xenagos, though she was severely injured as a result.) | Island level, Higher with Magic

Stamina: Superhuman (Has single-handedly fought and defeated entire armies of Phyrexians on multiple occasions, during one such battle she killed so many that the piles of their corpses were large enough that her companions couldn't see her past them)

Range: Extended Melee Range, Hundreds of Meters with Magic, Unknown with Godsend (Godsend has the potential to destroy all of Nyx and destroyed large swaths of it when swung within Nyx) | Extended Melee Range, Hundreds of Meters with Magic

Standard Equipment: Godsend | Shadowspear

Intelligence: Gifted (Elspeth is a highly skilled fighter, having gone from never wielding a sword to becoming a fully fledged knight in only three years, the fastest anyone on Bant had ever become a knight and at the youngest age, and she herself remarked that her skill in combat did not change in any way after Heliod transformed her sword into a spear. Despite being both an outsider and more than half the age of almost every knight in Bant's army she was picked to be a field commander and lead her forces in numerous battles during the Conflux, and was later picked by Karn to lead the resistance to try to cleanse Mirrodin of the Phyrexians. She is also highly intelligent in a conventional sense, able to comprehend Ajani's discussion of metaphysics and the different functions of magic in different Planes.)

Weaknesses: Low self-esteem. Suffers severe PTSD from her traumatic experiences with the Phyrexians, causing her to vary between paralyzing fear or blind rage when faced with something that reminds her of Phyrexia.

Notable Attacks/Techniques:

  • Godsend, the Sword of Chaos: Elspeth's former signature swordspear, a Legendary Enchantment Artifact, a weapon originally forged by the God Purphoros as a means of combating Heliod. When Heliod and Purphoros clashed the weapon fell to Theros near Elspeth, who had just planeswalked to Theros for the first time. She saw the Sword of Chaos falling from the sky, grasped it and planeswalked away. When she returned to Theros, ten years later, Heliod reforged the sword into the swordspear Godsend to wield as his Champion of the Sun. After Elspeth used it to kill Xenagos the weapon was used by Heliod to kill her and was subsequently destroyed. The weapon itself grants the wielder greatly increased power and is capable of exiling opponents who are both attacking and defending against it as well as nullifying opponents from summoning the same creatures again.
  • Shadowspear: Elspeth's current signature spear, a Legendary Enchantment Artifact, a weapon created from the shadow of Heliod's spear, Khrusor, and brought into reality through her nightmares in the Underworld.
