Summary

Ecco is a male bottlenose dolphin and the protagonist of the Ecco the Dolphin series. He used to be a regular young dolphin (aside from the star scars on his head) living a regular life, until one day a mysterious tornado from the sky abducted his pack. From then, Ecco went on a long adventure through time, fighting the Vortex, the invasive and predatorial alien species that had abducted his friends.

Powers and Abilities:

Superhuman Physical Characteristics, Enhanced Senses, Sound ManipulationAcausality (Immune to the changes he caused in the prehistoric past, despite the fact that it created two parallel timelines in the future), can ignore durability against certain minerals with Glyph songs, Stealth Mastery (Able to sneak past Eight Arms, a giant octopus, even passing right in front of it), Status Effect Inducement (Able to confuse and stun enemies), Natural Weaponry, Resistance to Poison Manipulation (While tetrodotoxin is highly toxic to most animals when eaten, including humans, dolphins use pufferfish for recreation) and Temperature Manipulation (Able to swim in deep antartic waters without any ill effect)

Same as before plus Underwater Breathing (Type 2. Thanks to the Asterite's powers, Ecco can breathe underwater with no issue, while still mantaining his ability to breathe on land), Regeneration (Mid-Low. Ecco will rapidly regenerate damage suffered. This ability was given to him by the Asterite), Energy Manipulation with the Death Sonar

Same as before plus Danmaku via PulsarTransformation through Metaspheres, Flight with Seagull and Vortex Metasphere, Natural Weaponry and Underwater Breathing (Type 1) with Shark, Fish and Jellyfish Metasphere, Underwater Breathing (Type 2) and Acid Manipulation with Vortex Metasphere, Enhanced Senses and limited Extrasensory Perception with Shark Metasphere, Poison Manipulation via Jellyfish and Vortex Metasphere, Immortality and Animal Manipulation with Fish Metasphere (can reform his body from only a single fish, and then add others to his pack), possibly Time Travel through Vortex Metasphere (Other Vortex Drones show the ability to travel through time, though Ecco never uses it)

Intelligence: Above Average, able to solve complex puzzles and figure out enemy weaknesses in a variety of situations, and has adventured through various different and treacherous environments and time periods unscathed.

Weaknesses: Cannot fight effectively out of water, needs to breathe air every few minutes, though that is later fixed by a power given to him by the Asterite, most of his powers rely on the Asterite and will be taken away from him if it is killed. The Pulsar Sonar only lasts for about a minute.

Notable Attacks/Techniques:

  • Charge: Ecco dashes forward. His simplest attack, but it's fast, accurate and long-ranged.
    • Double-Charge: Ecco can cancel a charge into another one, and prevents enemies from respawning when off-screen, though this is likely just a game mechanic.
  • Sonar: A high-pitched noises Ecco can use for various means. His various sonar techniques are known to dolphins as "Songs".
    • Sonar Map: Far more powerful than a real dolphin's echolocation, Ecco's sonar allows him to get a full map of his surroundings when he uses it.
    • Confusion Sonar: A sonar meant to stun enemies, even ones with weaker hearing than humans such as sharks.
    • Death Sonar: A powerful upgrade to his sonar that allows him to shoot beams out of his forehead.
    • Pulsar: A powerup that causes every offensive usage of the sonar to be multiplied and fired in every direction. Lasts for the entirety of a stage.
  • Glyph: A gemstone that teaches Ecco a song that lets him shatter stones or crystals.
  • Metaspheres: Special devices created by the Asterite that allow Ecco to transform into other creatures, although he is unable to use his songs when in these forms, and suffering deadly damage will remove the effect, leaving Ecco unharmed.
    • Seagull
    • Shark: Turns into a shark of a species dangerous enough to seriously threaten Ecco and his podmates.
    • Jellyfish: Turns into a surprisingly durable and mobile Jellyfish.
    • Vortex: Turns into a Vortex Drone, able to shoot poisonous acid and fly.
    • Fish: Turns into a pack of fish. All of the fish in the pack must be killed for the transformation to be dispelled, and other fish can be made part of the pack if close-by.
