My bananas and my buddy, Diddy, they are gone! The Kremlings will pay! I'll hunt them down through every corner of my island, until I have every last banana from my hoard back!
~ Donkey Kong

Summary

Donkey Kong, (often abbreviated as "DK", or rarely Donkey), is a major character in the Super Mario franchise and the main protagonist of the Donkey Kong franchise. He is a powerful and carefree Kong that lives in Donkey Kong Island. He likes to collect bananas and spend time with his friends, particularly his best friend and sidekick Diddy Kong. However, he has also been portrayed as an antagonist on multiple occasions, mainly in the Mario vs. Donkey Kong series.

Though commonly known as Donkey Kong, he is actually the descendant[1] of the, now old, original Donkey Kong, and successor after he later retired after his numerous defeats at the hands of Mario.

  • Barrels: Barrels (also called Plain Barrels, Wooden Barrels, Normal Barrels, or Regular Barrels) are objects that can be used in a variety of ways, most commonly as projectiles that can be thrown to attack other characters.
  • Coconut Shooter: The Coconut Shooter (also known as the Coconut Cannon, and called the Coconut Gun in the DK Rap) is the personal weapon of Donkey Kong in Donkey Kong 64. It resembles a hollowed-out log with a twig sticking out of it; the twig is possibly the weapon's crosshair. As the name implies, the Coconut Shooter shoots out coconuts. He is limited to 50 Coconuts for ammo.
  • Bongos: Bongos are drum-like instruments first encountered in the game Donkey Kong 64; however, they have become much more used in the Donkey Kong franchise since then. In Donkey Kong 64, a pair of Bongos can be purchased by Donkey Kong from Candy Kong in Candy's Music Shop. With these bongos Donkey Kong is able to use the special attack, "Bongo Blast". The attack sends out soundwaves that can defeat any nearby enemies; if Bongo Blast is used on a Bongo Blast Music Pad then it will cause an event to occur.
  • Orange Grenades: An orange, also known as an Orange Grenade, is an explosive fruit and collectible weapon that appears in every level of Donkey Kong 64. It looks like a regular orange but has a grenade pin on top. He is limited to 20 Oranges.
  • Bananas: Bananas are the ubiquitous items appearing in every Donkey Kong Country and Donkey Kong Land game to date. They work similarly to the Coins from the Super Mario franchise. In these games, for every one hundred bananas collected, the player is granted an extra life. Banana Bunches, which are worth ten regular bananas, appear very frequently as well. In Donkey Kong Country, bananas and Banana Bunches are common within Bonus Areas, even having a type specifically featuring them, "Collect the Bananas!". Throughout the game, Donkey Kong can sometimes reveal a Banana Bunch by using Hand Slap in a specific location. Additionally, hoards of bananas can be seen in the boss areas. Bananas can also be used to heal Donkey Kong should he be injured.

  • Power Star: Collectible items debuting in Super Mario 64, Power Stars are mythical artifacts that usually act as a means for level progression. However, they've also showcased a variety of different powers throughout the series and remain among the more recognizable objects in Super Mario.

  • Optional Equipment: Super Mario Series Items.

Intelligence: At least Average normally, Gifted in combat. Despite being laid back, he can be surprisingly intelligent, as he is easily capable of replicating human skills such as professional athletics, utilizing a range of weapons and even has a grasp of morality. He's intelligent enough to pilot a battle mech.[55] Donkey Kong is also an exceptional combatant, being capable of besting the likes of the Evil Kings, all of which are expert fighters in their own right, and consistently defeat the likes of King K. Rool, a genius inventor and infamous pirate.

Weaknesses: None notable.

Notable Attacks/Techniques:

  • Sound Wave Attack: Donkey Kong claps hard enough to create a sound wave to attack his opponents. The sound waves travel around him or in front of him. These attacks can be incredibly destructive.
  • Ground Pound: Donkey Kong creates an earthquake by slapping the ground.
  • Simian Slam: The Simian Slam (Buttus Bashium) is a move performed by Donkey Kong in Donkey Kong 64. To perform it, he must jump in the air, and while airborne, slam his body into the ground. Doing so results in a small, surrounding green shockwave being generated.
  • Thunder Wham: Donkey Kong slams onto the ground, creating a dome-like shock wave that even tilts the field.

  • Barrels: Donkey Kong can summon and throw barrels at his opponents.
  • Barrel Roll: Donkey Kong will roll his entire body toward his opponents.
  • Barrel Cannon Blast: Donkey Kong summons a barrel cannon and hops into it. The cannon will fire Donkey Kong at such force that anything hit by him during his course will be burnt by him.
  • Ultra Barrel DK: Donkey Kong is equipped with a special Ultra Barrel rockets that enables him to fly extremely fast into the point he causes fire to surround himself.
  • Wild Move: While being equipped with rocket barrels, Donkey Kong performs a boost dash that destroys obstacles and attack enemies in his path.

  • Magic Weapon: Donkey Kong forges a weapon of pure energy in the shape of a hockey stick.
  • Power Fist Strike: Donkey Kong's Super Strike. He charges with green and yellow lightning then makes an electrical strike by punching the target with anger.
  • Thunder Blast: Donkey Kong's Megastrike. He jumps into the air, and he gathers electricity in his arms and claps at the target with tremendous re-entry force.
  • Zone Speed: Donkey Kong can make the flow of time slow from his view by focusing his energy.
  • Strong Kong: Donkey Kong jumps into a Donkey Kong Barrel and turns invincible for a few seconds.
  • Going Bananas: After eating a certain number of bananas, Donkey Kong becomes faster and invincible for a limited period of time. He has a similar variant called Crystal Star in DK: Jungle Climber, which also grants him flight. This version activates when he collected jewels.

Mario Party Items: Having participated in decades worth of party games, Luigi has access to an assortment of essential tools at his disposal:

  • Poison Mushroom: In Mario Party 3, the Poison Mushroom is an item that the players can use on either themselves or one of their opponents. A player who is cursed by a Poison Mushroom can only roll a 1, 2, or 3 on their next turn. It is possible to eliminate the curse by using another Mushroom or a Magic Lamp. If the player's character is still under effect of the mushroom, Tumble will say that they are still sick from it.
  • Golden Pipe: The Golden Pipe is a normal item that appears in Super Mario Party, functioning similarly to the Genie Lamp, Flutter Orb, and Star Pipe from previous Mario Party games. It places the player one space away from the Star, which means players can buy it afterwards unless they roll a 0.
  • Warp Box: Warp Boxes appear as usable items in Mario Party: Star Rush, Mario Party: The Top 100, and Super Mario Party. In Mario Party: Star Rush and Mario Party: The Top 100, they warp the player to the space of a rival. In Super Mario Party, they appear only in the Partner Party mode, where they warp the user to the space of their teammate.
  • Coinado: The Coinado is an item from Mario Party: Star Rush. Like the Fling Spring, this item can be placed on the board in a similar manner to orbs and hexes from previous Mario Party games. After being placed, the Coinado is invisible to all other players until a player lands on this space, which can include the player who placed it. Whoever lands on it is spun and loses five coins to the player who placed it.
  • Ally Phone: The Ally Phone is an item from Super Mario Party. It resembles a miniature mobile phone with an ally icon on its screen and a Toad-like cap on its head. When used, the player summons a random ally that is not already a character in play. The ally then gives the player the option of rolling their special Dice Block, as well as add either one or two to their leader's die roll.
  • Fly Guy Ticket: The Fly Guy Ticket is an item in Super Mario Party that resembles a ticket with a blue Fly Guy painted on it. When used, the player can choose who to use it on; then, the player tears the Ticket, and a blue Fly Guy comes and steals a random item from the chosen player.

Mini Donkey Kong: Mini Donkey Kongs, also shortened to Mini DKs, are Donkey Kong toys that the Mario Toy Company sells, regularly appearing since Mario vs. Donkey Kong 2: March of the Minis. In their debut game, Mario vs. Donkey Kong 2: March of the Minis, Mini Donkey Kongs play a notable role in the story of the game. After the success of the Mini Mario toy line in the original Mario vs. Donkey Kong, the Mario Toy Company released three more mini toys. These include Mini Toad, Mini Peach, and Mini Donkey Kong. There are also Mini Donkey Kongs that appear when a normal Mini Donkey Kong collects a Fire Flower.

Note: Not to be confused with Cranky Kong who is the Donkey Kong from the arcade game "Donkey Kong".
