I enjoy my work; sorry if that bothers you. Oh, very sorry, really. But there it is. And it's not just any old killing, of course. It has to be done the right way, at the right time, with the right partner--very complicated, but very necessary.
~ Dexters Internal Monologue

And I remembered that when the dark passenger takes over... It doesn’t matter where I am. Whether the moon is over Miami or Melbourne... Death works the same way everywhere.
~ Dexter while killing a man

Whatever made me the way I am left me hollow, empty inside, unable to feel. It doesn’t seem like a big deal. I’m quite sure most people fake an awful lot of everyday human contact. I just fake all of it.
~ Dexters Internal Monologue

‘What are you?’ Father Donovan whispered. ‘The beginning,’ I said. ‘And the end. Meet your Unmaker, Father.’

‘I do understand, Father,’ I said, and there was something in my voice, the Dark Passenger’s voice now, and the sound of it froze him. He lifted his head slowly to face me and what he saw in my eyes made him very still. ‘I understand perfectly,” I told him, moving very close to his face. The sweat on his cheeks turned to ice. ‘You see,’ I said, ‘I can’t help myself, either.’

~ Dexter Before Killing Father Donovan

He used his whole face to close his eyes. He could not look, not now, not like this. I did not blame him, not really, it was a terrible mess. It had bothered me just to know it was there since I had set it up for him. But he had to see it. He had to. Not just for me. Not just for the Dark Passenger. For him. He had to see. And he was not looking.

"Open your eyes, Father Donovan," I said.

"Please," he said in a terrible little whimper. It got on my nerves very badly, shouldn't have, icy-clean control, but it got to me, whining in the face of that mess on the floor, and I kicked his legs out from under him. I hauled hard on the noose and grabbed the back of his neck with my right hand, then slammed his face into the filthy warped floorboards. There was a little blood and that made me madder.

"Open them," I said. "Open your eyes. Open them NOW. Look." I grabbed his hair and pulled his head back. "Do as you're told," I said. "Look. Or I will cut your eyelids right off your face."

~ Dexters Threatening Father Donovan

Summary

Dexter Morgan is the main character of his comic book series. The series consists of 10 different comics and the first five follow the story of him and his sister Debra working together trying to find evidence that Steve Gonzalez is a murderer. The second set of comics follows Dexter being called to Australia to help find who has been killing large groups of people.

Dexter is the adopted child of Harry Morgan and Doris Morgan, as well as the adopted brother of Deborah Morgan. During his time at Coconut Grove High School, Dexter was bullied by a Cuban student known as Steve Gonzalez. After a pep talk with his father, Harry, Dexter attempted to make Steve pay for the abuse to the point of putting Steve on his table. However, Dexter was interrupted and was unable to kill Steve. As a teenager, Dexter realized that he was uninterested in sex or dating and needed instruction by his father on how to interact with women. As stated in Darkly Dreaming Dexter, after high school, Dexter completed his studies at the University of Miami. When Dexter was 19, Harry fell ill of coronary disease and was confined to a hospital where Harry spotted First Nurse who was purposefully overdosing patients on morphine. Harry gave Dexter his permission to kill her. She was Dexter's first human victim. Later, Dexter married Rita Bennett, who became Rita Morgan. He has a biological daughter named Lily Anne Morgan and two step-children, Cody and Astor Bennett.

Survived falling from 1.5 stories and was mostly fine. Survived a violent car crash[63]. Survived a propane explosion that destroyed a large portion of a house[64] and an extremely powerful explosion that killed Brian and destroyed the Yachts cabin (although he was injured by this)[65])

Could fight and kill several people despite previously having trouble standing[23]. Easily able to run at his top speed consistently[24]. Survived being caught up in an explosion and shot and managed to move around the boat for minutes afterwards despite Dexter being fairly certain the bullet had hit a vein and was losing blood extremely quickly[65])

    Intelligence: Genius

Knew just by looking in Steves eyes that he was still a "monster"[19], stated to be Miami's best blood spatter analyst this is further shown after he took a brief look at the body and immediately knew he had been in the water and that he had been killed in a separate location[19]. Knows how to pick locks[1]. Knew from a single needle mark that Deveaux was injected with potassium[2]. Extremely skilled detective as in the span of one conversation was able to deduce that Steve was likely keeping hundreds of people as slaves and how he could be doing that[2]. Despite being disoriented and injected with potassium he was able to immediately guess where he was[21]. Wrote a book on forensic science which was stated to be a very thorough book[72]. Remembered the exact directions to Donovan’s dumping grounds despite it being almost impossible to see[73]. Speaks fluent Spanish, understands a little Cuban[28], French[74], and seemingly Latin[75]. any Cuban he doesn't understand or if a conversation is moving too fast for him to hear correctly he's able to predict and deduce whats being said based on context[76], he's also shown to be able to predict what someone might be thinking if he knows the person’s psyche well enough[77]. He implies that his hunches are always right he just occasionally misleads law enforcement so that he can still “have a hobby”[78]. Deb stated that he can usually just look at a body and immediately know who did it[62]. "Humans" are interesting to him and states that he’s read books, implying some knowledge on psychology. He’s also well versed in what different dreams can symbolize despite him not usually dreaming[79]. Later he gets frustrated that he continues to have dreams and describes them as "freshman psychology". Just with a quick look he was able to deduce with their a appearance and mood what someone had eaten for breakfast[80]. He's capable of keeping a mental list of potential victims. Despite not liking football when he was asked about the Miami Dolphins he had a ton of pre-prepared information/remarks on the subject. Implying he does this for most things even if he's not interested on the subject[81]. Good at remaking artworks in his university pottery classes[82], seems to have some interest in art and it's history[83] shown when he referenced Hieronymus Bosch[84]. Seemingly knowledgeable on human anatomy and uses that knowledge in combat, shown when even in the heat of battle he could correctly identify the location he stabbed a guard in was the "solar plexus".[22]. Confident that if he got arrested he could defend himself in court unless they caught him in the act or had some other irrefutable evidence[85]. After looking at a crime scene he could immediately tell that the blood patterns were nearly impossible to create. Basically deducing that the crime scene was in some capacity faked.[86]. Dexter is able to easily see through faked facial expressions that others are completely fooled by, he also calls them "obvious" showing how comparatively good he is at faking emotions despite Brian being fairly experienced[87]. Knew just by hearing Samantha that she had been doped[88].

Weaknesses: If he waits too long without a kill he gets very angry and more prone to impulsive decisions. Hates blood and will try very hard to keep it off himself, in fact in large quantities he can become physically stunned and unable to move for a short[89]. Witnessing ritual sacrifices to Moloch will cause his Dark Passenger to flee leaving him without his clairvoyance, extrasensory perception, fear manipulation, etc. Mentioning Moloch's name or playing his song will cause complete irrational and borderline uncontrollable fear, although he is usually able to resist the effects given time. When his daughter was born he became capable of feeling emotions normally and consistently even shocking Dexter when he found that he genuinely cared for his Daughter and expressed real worry Deborah this extended to his step children Astor and Cody who he also feels worry for[86]

    Notable Attacks/Techniques:

    • Kill Ritual: This version of Dexter shares a very similar tactic to his Live-Action Counterpart. Dexter will first try to find any evidence of wrongdoing from his victims, once he finds it he will begin to stalk his victim sometimes even for a couple weeks. He does this so he can establish a pattern in their behaviour, and where they go day to day. This makes it easy for him to find a perfect time to kidnap his victims. Once he finally decides to attack he puts on his mask and sneaks up on the victim wrapping a 50 lb fishing line around their neck forcing them to drive to an already prepared location. He then shows them pictures of their victims, occasionally taunting/mutilating them, until he eventually decides to end it.

Notes: Unlike both his game and tv show counterpart he's far more willing to kill innocent people if the moment calls for it. Jeff Lindsay even states that this version of Dexter "doesn't care about justice; he cares about killing"
