“ | My name is Dexter. Dexter Morgan. I don't know what made me the way I am, but whatever it was left a hollow place inside. People fake a lot of human interactions, but I feel like I fake them all, and I fake them very well. That's my burden, I guess. But I don't blame my foster parents for that. Harry and Doris Morgan did a wonderful job raising me. But they're both dead now. I didn't kill them. Honest. | „ |

“ | It's a scary world out there. Guilty people slip through the cracks of the justice system every day. Murderers. Rapists. Predators. Monsters who walk among us, and we never even know. Counting on the justice system to discover these predators and effectively deal with them is not an option. Not for me. I don't follow society's rules. But that doesn't mean there aren't rules I have to follow when the Dark Passenger calls. | „ |

Summary
The main protagonist of the Dexter television series, as well as its 2021 revival, Dexter: New Blood, Dexter Morgan is a blood spatter analyst who moonlights as a vigilante serial killer of murderers. Due to childhood trauma, Dexter is largely consumed by a compulsive desire to kill people. Dexter's foster father, Harry Morgan, noticed this when Dexter was young, and presented him with a complex set of guidelines. This "Code of Harry" taught Dexter to specifically target those who deserved to die, allowing him to channel his urges without getting caught or harming innocent people.

- Enhanced Senses (Enhanced Awareness: Dexter is nearly always alert of his surroundings, he's able to notice little details that most police officers misses, he has noted hidden cameras,[1] attacks coming from behind,[2] and he was also able to know when someone was following him, plenty of times during the series)
- Acrobatics (Dexter can climb up houses, and can perform some acrobatic[2] stunts[2])
- Photographic Memory
- Hacking
- Martial Arts (Practiced Advanced Jiu-Jitsu and Judo in high school. Easily defeated ex military characters like the Skinner and Doakes. Has easily disarmed opponents even if they got the drop on him[3]. Was able to quickly regain the upper hand on someone despite them being armed with a knife and Dexter being completely unarmed.[4] Effortlessly overpowered and defeated two people at once[5])
- Pressure Points (Can stun his enemies by targeting vital areas[6])
- Stealth Mastery (Has broken into many homes, even while they were inhabited. He regularly sneaks behind his victims in order to inject them with his M99, could also sneak on his older brother.[7] Quickly slipped out of an area circled by police and remained unseen.[8] Hid in the dark without being seen by Elliot,[9] and hid behind a mirror without being perceived by Elric[10]. Snuck into another killers bathroom while he was in the shower, wrote something on the mirror and left the house all without being heard or spotted[11], later hid under his plastic wrappings to get the jump on him[4])
- Weapon Mastery (Dexter is able to target weak points with his knife and easily defeat professional hitmen, random people and criminals, Masuka even commented that "whoever had killed Oscar Prado was either very lucky or a pro". He is also shown to be somewhat skilled with firearms)
- Multiple Selves (Type 1, possibly 2 - Dexter's deceased brother seemingly killed a pot farmer, Brian was also able to throw body parts into the ocean despite Dexter being preoccupied. Harry's spirit is implied to loom over Dexter. His deceased family members are seemingly capable of giving him advice, a past vision of him was able to warn him of an incoming attack)
- Sleep Manipulation with M99 syringes
- Paralysis Inducement (Used a “spinal epidermal” on Lila which unlike M99 kept her awake and paralyzed her instantly)
- Social Influencing:
- Deception: Is able to convince others that he is a normal person, though this guise can be seen through by people with a great understanding of the human psyche.
- Instigating Fear: On multiple occasions Dexter is shown to be able to interrogate people and influence them into doing things via fear and threats, shown with Louis and others.
- Reputation: Dexter is known throughout the state as the most skilled blood spatter analyst there is meaning his word carries a lot of weight even as an advisor in certain homicide cases.
- Charisma: When Dexter puts his mind to it he's fully capable of getting close to even the most closed off of people, most notably Arthur Mitchell in fact he was able to become very close with the family in just a matter of days.
- Coercion: Was able to get a crazy amount of evidence to blackmail Miguel into leaving him alone.
- Information Analysis (By analyzing blood patterns Dexter can recreate crime scenes with surgical precision, he's able to know the position of the killer, and which weapon he used to kill, he's even able know who is the killer itself, if he finds his fingerprints. Dexter can also read people and is able to determine potential serial killers)
- Preparation (Most of his kills require extensive preparation)
Attack Potency: At least Street level (Dexter is capable of breaking necks,[12] very easily. He was able to stab through a man using a pitchfork[13] and a rusty fishing harpoon,[14] pushed a guy so hard, that the guy's feet glided across the floor,[15] was able to stab through a bed and man using only a pointy but blunt drape holder,[16] slammed a guy through a thin wooden wall,[17] and was able to break a wall by slamming his body against it[18]. Knocked a man back dozens of meters with a punch[5]), higher with weaponry (Claimed to have crushed Viktors skull with a fire extinguisher,[19] which would require this much energy. Decapitated a guy with a meat cleaver which would require this level of strength.[20] Stabbed through Oliver's neck with a pen.[21] Fractured Paul's skull in a single hit with a pan[22], cut Cindy in half at the waist[23] which would take this much energy)
Speed: Peak Human, possibly higher (Caught up to a slow moving vehicle,[2] got into the sewers before a group of men found him,[24] was so fast that another group of men had trouble keeping up with him,[9] and was able to blitz Elric,[10] and Travis Marshall while weakened.[25] Dexter was able to disarm a guy before the guy could shoot him,[26] was able to pick up a pitchfork and stab a man pointing a gun at him, before the man could pull the trigger,[13] and was also able to dodge gunshots,[26] even when out of his prime[27]. Easily reacted to a surprise attack and was able to immediately respond[3])
Lifting Strength: Class 1 (Lifted a man off the ground, using practically one arm and did not struggle at all.[15] Easily crushed Logan's neck.[28] Neck snapping is at this level. Briefly wrestled with Ray Speltzer, a man on steroids who could hold his own against 4 cops before being immobilized by them.[2] Comparable to, but weaker than Little Chino, who broke out of several layers of plastic wrap and duct tape[29]. Opened an elevator door[30])
Striking Strength: At least Street level
Durability: At least Street level (Can fight those who can harm him,[2] has survived car crashes[31] with little to no damage,[32] survived a violent storm that destroyed his boat,[21] survived being thrown through a window at high speeds and being shot in the leg with a sniper rifle afterwards,[10] is vastly superior to Santos Jimenez who tanked being hit by him using a Baseball Bat,[33] comparable to Ray Speltzer who easily brushed off being hit by him with an iron rod.[2])
Stamina: Athletic (Works many hours as both a blood splatter analyst and a vigilante, can continue to fight with a broken hand[12] and a gunshot-ridden leg wound.[34] Unfazed from being stabbed in the shoulder.[21] Ran for an hour straight with no breaks.[35] Ran for an entire afternoon despite the fact that he got shot in the leg earlier,[10] spent the night disposing off of a corpse and getting gifts for Christmas afterwards.[27] While weakened, he stayed an entire night on a debris while floating in cold water, though he almost drowned from exhaustion by the time he was rescued.[14])
Range: Standard Melee Range, Extended Melee Range with his tranq spear. Tens of Meters with his dart gun.
Standard Equipment: Knives, Scalpels, Plastic wrap and M99 syringes
- Optional Equipment: A Drill, Chainsaw[36][23], Tranquilizer spear, a Dart gun, Pistol/Revolver, a Sniper rifle, chloroform[37], Garrote wire, and a double barrel shotgun.
Intelligence: Genius
Dexter is portrayed as highly intelligent, pragmatic, calculating, and a master of compartmentalization. Dexter was in the top of his class in medical school and, subsequently, earned a degree in forensic science. His formal education included courses in biology, anatomy, chemistry, and mathematics. Additionally, he demonstrates vast knowledge on various topics, including history, anthropology, psychology, botany, philosophy, architecture, sociology, economics, religious lore, art, literature, law, and criminology. Dexter has a precise knowledge of his work field, considered to be one of best bloodstain pattern analyst out there, and thanks to his interest in blood, he proficiently solves a lot of criminal cases. To supplement his forensic expertise, Dexter mastered a wide array of skills. He's a master manipulator, practiced liar, lock picker, burglar, marksman, hunter and tracker, hand-to-hand combatant, actor, computer hacker, and impersonator. Dexter is the most successful serial killer in his universe, and was responsible for hundreds of deaths before he was caught. He's also a very good detective, he can quickly solve complex cases that most police officers can't. He even was able to find out who the Trinity Killer was. Even while he was in university he was able to continue to kill his victims while maintaining appearances and his grades[38]
- Dexter was the top of his class in med school (where he got his masters degree) and he uses that knowledge to get the right dosage for the injections even accounting for the body weight. He also has an extreme amount of knowledge in human anatomy which he uses in combat and in executing his victims. He could do this even at 20 years old shown with Nurse Mary.
- Knows how to pick locks so well that he needed to purposefully limit himself so Miguel wouldn’t get suspicious.
- As a crime scene analyst he would need a ridiculous amount of skill in multiple different fields including: Statistics, Chemistry, Biology, Human anatomy, Geometry, Meteorology, etc.
- Dexter is known as one of if not the best crime scene analyst in Miami. Making Dexter the most skilled and intelligent scientist in Miami (In a specific field).
- In season 2 Masuka finds something that could incriminate Dexter and his first thought was how he couldn’t believe he was about to be caught by Masuka, implying that he views Masuka as far below him in terms of forensics skill, Masuka is shown multiple times throughout the series to be an extremely skilled crime scene investigator and was even stated by Batista to be well above average[39]
- Knew just by looking at nearly decade old skeletons for just a few seconds that Hannah had killed someone
- Just by looking at Rita for a few seconds and being in a high stress situation he was able to tell the length of the cut, and the specific location/artery that was cut.
- Both Lundy and Dexter considered each other equals, with Lundy saying that he was lucky that the Trinity Killer chose Miami so that he could have access to the best crime scene analyst he knows, Dexter himself called Lundy a "Worthy adversary".
- In "Dexter Early Cuts" it's shown that he purchased his boat in his early 20's and immediately used it to dump a body, meaning he either had his boating license prior to purchasing the boat or he just intuitively knew how to drive a boat.
- Found a suspect for the vacation murders in under a day just by checking the blood found at the scene
- Created a test for bleach in just a couple seconds with household items
- Despite suffering a panic attack and only really getting a good look at the room for a few seconds before collapsing he was able to correctly estimate the amount of people killed and how much blood was in the room
- Was able to convince someone not to shoot him by explaining how his defensive position would be evident on any blood spatter reports
- When the police were made aware of the Bay Harbour Butcher, Dexter in order to throw them off sent contradicting evidence and letters, this tactic would have completely worked if not for Lundy eventually figuring it out.
- When preparing to kill Cole he prepared for the fact that he wouldn't be able to see in the dark so as a solution he counted the steps to the bed showing his impressive memory/problem solving/etc[40]
- In season 1 he was in a court room and was asked if he had "Worked on a lot of cases" to which Dexter responded with "2,103" showing his superhuman memory and how experienced he is in his field.
- Remembered the exact time of a kill despite it being over a year ago: “I stalked a wife-killer at jacks hideaway last year, grabbed him right at closing. At 2:00 am…”[41] this was a thought Dexter had after Miguel told him he was at jacks hideaway all night.
- In all his years of killing he had never once left any evidence behind with the exception of one time although he was in an extremely high stress situation.
- When Rita's car broke down she called Dexter over to help fix the car when he arrived he expressed that he was "More of a boat guy", implying that he's capable of repairing a boat.
- Shown in the episodes where hes stalking the Trinity Killer he seems to know his way around construction/power tools
- Built himself a small wood shack, complete with a functioning air conditioning system in under a day. The air conditioning system alone would likely require at least some limited knowledge in electrical engineering. The fact he was able to build a sturdy/well made shack so quickly shows a good grasp on construction, architecture, math, physics, etc.
- Every single kill is planned days in advance, those days are spent vetting and stalking the target as well as setting up the kill room showing how detail oriented and careful he is.
- Planned out a well formulated plot to kill Miguel within seconds and in his head, including an alibi, a date of when the murder would take place, and even who to frame it on.
The situation occurs with Dexter being called by Lumen to help her deal with Dan, right in the middle of a kill. Dexter immediately shows up to help Lumen and expertly tracks down Dan within minutes just by following blood patterns. After finding Dan a series of events occurs which leads to Dexter snapping his neck, soon afterwards Lance escapes from Dexters vehicle, Dexter quickly adapts to the situation by framing the situation to look like an accidental death where both Dan and Lance accidentally ended up killing each other, which the police immediately believed. This was all concocted in a high stress situation, late at night and in a very short amount of time.
Doakes had discovered Dexter as the Bay Harbour Butcher and went to bring him in, in response Dexter kidnapped him and came up with a plot to kill him. This plan was thought of fairly quickly, under a lot of stress and even a gunshot wound. The plan consisted of tricking Doakes into drinking a sleeping agent, putting his finger prints on Dexter's kill tools which he then threw into the ocean where he knew a diving class dives, which he then knew would be found and eventually turned over to the police where it would be determined that Doakes' fingers prints are on them.
- Dexter has successfully framed a number of people to save himself, all of which were successful and most of which were planned out pretty much in the moment. Even years after Doakes's death LaGuerta had suspicions about the true identity of the Bay Harbour Butcher and how it could be Dexter. At one point in the investment Dexter claims that Doakes had a secret boat and quickly set up a scene for a deserted boat covered in plastic as well as knives with dried blood and Doakes' finger prints. Eventually Maria arrests Dexter after she thinks that he murdered Hector Estrada after finding a his "bloody shirt and wallet" on his boat. In reality Dexter had stolen Estradas old shirt from the evidence locker and placed it on his boat with Marias fingerprints to make it appear that she had attempted to frame him.
- After killing the Skinner he heard sirens approaching so he quickly threw his corpse under a cop car to make it look like he committed suicide.
- Despite the emotional toll on Dexter he still cleverly used his brother table and equipment to make it look like he had committed suicide. Whether on purpose or because of how he was feeling at the time, he also left hesitation cuts on Brians throat making it look even more convincing.
- Due to years of experience he’s gained borderline Clairvoyance when it comes to identifying criminals. Shown multiple times in the series most notably the man talking to Astor in the grocery store or even nurse Mary.
- Solved the "Trinity Killer" case in a few days. This was a killer that not even Frank Lundy, an FBI agent who was stated multiple times to be a "rockstar detective" could even prove existed despite years of investigation and access to resources.
- He constantly finds murderers who never had a case against them, meaning he just finds these people out in the wild (Such as Mike Donovan and Boyde Fowler)
- Figured out pretty quickly that Arthur Mitchell was using the four walls builds to hide his kills
- Can create 100% correct crime scenes in his mind, accounting for the correct direction, amount, and pattern of the blood in extremely in depth detail in a matter of minutes despite being out of his prime. This would have required an immense, superhuman amount of knowledge in various types of math and science, extremely high capacity for thought and even a seeming master of multi tasking.[42] Which on this level would be almost impossible.
- Connected a seemingly unrelated homicide to a serial killer case from the 80's and deduced that he was likely in a retirement home, later he was able to easily get himself free access to the retirement home and almost immediately deduced the identity of the Tooth Fairy
- Has enough to skill to brutally overwhelm and strangle a special ops soldier while Doakes had a gun, Dexter was handcuffed and had a gunshot wound. Doakes is also shown to be able to out shoot a fellow soldier who Dexter was impressed by, stating that he was able to shoot with incredible accuracy in under a second.
- Easily killed the Skinner who was a captain in the military, while he had a broken hand.
- When Vince was talking about Oscar Prado's murder he stated that the person who stabbed him either got super lucky or was unbelievably skilled.
- He knows Judo and advanced Jiu Jutsu even describing the latter as "An easy credit"
- Evaded the entire FBI despite Lundy (who’s shown and stated to be an insanely skilled detective) sharing an office space with him. This is the same Lundy who had a brief interaction with Arthur Mitchell and immediately had suspicions of him, showing Dexters proficiency in social manipulation and masking abilities.
- Knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that George King was guilty despite only briefly seeing him.[43]
- Manipulated Miguel Prado into believing his brother was unstable by, faking tip calls to Ramon, and manipulating him into going to a bar and getting drunk subsequently causing him to become extremely frustrated.
- Was able to fake his own death for ten years. This would have included possibly forging a variety of different identifications, and fleeing the country under a fake name despite only have a day or so.
- Skilled at getting personally close to people he’s chasing for the sole purpose of benefiting in some way. Like with Arthur Mitchel he was able to work his way up to a seeming friendship with him in a matter of days
- Easily gained Alex's trust in a short amount of time so that he could later kidnap him, this even involved creating a fake backstory and changing his voice[44]
- Despite Dexter and Doakes's strenuous relationship, Dexter was able to convince him that the husband was the most likely suspect, despite Doakes and Debra previously being against that
Weaknesses: None notable, though reminding him of his mother's murder used to cause him a panic attack.
- Overpowered Doakes while handcuffed with a wounded leg
- Overpowered and killed the Skinner with a broken hand
- Defeated many serial killers
- Claims to have killed hundreds of murderers
Notable Attacks/Techniques:
- Kill Ritual: Before catching someone, Dexter sets up a special room for the kill. He covers everything in plastic, puts up pictures of the target's victims, and might use candles for lighting. Once he captures the person, often using M99 tranquilizer, he takes them to this room to perform his ritual. Dexter really enjoys this ritual. First, he takes off the target's clothes and ties them to a table with shrink wrap. If the person was tranquilized, Dexter waits for them to wake up. Then, using a scalpel, he collects a drop of blood from their cheek as a trophy. While doing this, he makes them confront the crimes they've committed. Dexter might share some personal details but makes himself out to be a monster. He usually uses one of his tools to kill, doing it while the person is still conscious. His method involves restraining, dominating, and intimidating the victim. Killing another killer satisfies Dexter's urge, and he believes it saves lives. Finally, Dexter cuts up the body and puts the parts in black trash bags to dispose of from his boat.
