I was put here at the dawn of life on Earth, to feed on the last breath of every one of you f***ers. I'm a little more than a... thing.
~ Death to Trevor Belmont.
Why is it that only human hands can reach into Hell? Don't you think that's weirdly f***ed up? I can't do it.
~ Death to Saint Germain.

Varney full body
This is where I'm supposed to be. At the start of the war, I came here to take Targoviste and give it to Dracula as a gift. Why is everyone making it so *** hard? Don't they know who I am?
~ Varney to Raatko.

Summary

Death, also known by his disguises Varney and The Alchemist, is the overarching antagonist of Netflix's animated series Castlevania, serving as the main antagonist of the fourth and final season. He is based off of the character of the same name from the video games.

Death is an ancient Elemental Spirit that feeds on the essence of humans after they die. Enraged by the death of Dracula by the hands of Trevor Belmont, Sypha Belnades and Alucard, Death started a plan in order to resurrect him as a Rebus, driving him insane, which in turn would mean the destruction of the world. Unlike his game version, Death isn't the literal concept, he just proudly took the name of "Death" itself.

Powers and Stats

Tier: High 8-C

Name: Death, Varney, The Alchemist

Origin: Castlevania (Animated Series)

Gender: Likely not applicable as an elemental spirit, has assumed both male and female forms. It's true form is most similar in body structure and vocalization to a male

Age: Billions of years old (Alive since the dawn of life on Earth)

Classification: Elemental Spirit

Powers and Abilities: Superhuman Physical Characteristics (As one of the strongest beings in the series, he is above regular vampires and trained humans), Immortality (Type 1; Death has existed ever since the dawn of life on Earth), Weapon Mastery (Wields a scythe and uses it with mastery), Shapeshifting (Can freely change his form, which allows him to disguise himself as a vampire and as an alchemist. His scythe also changes in size to match his own), Flight, Size Manipulation and Large Size (Type 1; can change his size at will), Weapon Creation (Created his scythe), Preparation, BFR, Portal Creation and Dimensional Travel via Infinite Corridor (Can travel between worlds via portals in the Infinite Corridor, and can also be used to teleport other people), Dark Magic, Soul Manipulation (Can devour souls to empower himself and control soul energy), Energy Projection (Can generate explosions and energy waves that can slice large stone platforms and project energy slashes from his scythe), Forcefield Creation (Can create barriers with Magic), Statistics Amplification (Can enhance his power by consuming souls, the essence of humans after they die, and would become the strongest being on Earth if his plan succeeded), Air Manipulation (His strikes can create gusts of wind strong enough to blow men away), Master Manipulator (Played the role of Varney to manipulate others), Resistance to Heat Manipulation, Holy Manipulation and Fire Manipulation (Can easily withstand hits from the Morning Star whip, the mere touch of the whip boils any supernatural being and creates explosions of fire)

Attack Potency: Large Building level (Physically stronger than Trevor Belmont and broke his arm with a single hit)

Speed: At least Relativistic+ (Can keep up with Trevor Belmont)

Lifting Strength: At least Class K, likely higher (Vastly stronger than Trevor Belmont, can easily swing his giant scythe)

Striking Strength: Large Building level (Able to easily smash stone towers with his fist and slice through solid rock like butter using his scythe)

Durability: Large Building level (Casually endured the Morning Star Whip's strikes without any signs of effort, said whip could break Death's barrier, something that a serious Alucard, even with weaponry, couldn't)

Stamina: Likely Superhuman, showed no signs of tiring during the whole events of Dracula's resurrection

Range: Tens of Meters with melee attacks and his scythe, Interdimensional with the Infinite Corridor

Standard Equipment: His Scythe

Intelligence: Gifted. Death has lived for ages and has knowledge of many disciplines, displayed great knowledge of the principles of alchemy and is a cunning strategist and trickster. He has a keen understanding of psychology, and an intuitive sense of how to manipulate the desires of people to achieve his own ends. Effortlessly tricked Saint Germain into abandoning his morality and do Death's dirty work. As Varney, Death manipulated many vampire lords, including Dracula himself, and always remained beneath suspicion.

Weaknesses: Cannot pull back the dead from Hell. Tends to be arrogant and let his sadism and gluttony take the better of him at times. The Magic Dagger can destroy/banish him.

Notable Attacks/Techniques:

  • Infinite Corridor: A system of doors to other lands, separated from our own by space and time. Portals to the Corridor are few and far between, and they drift in and out of existence. The Corridor acts as a central waypoint linking our world to many other worlds and dimensions. Death can travel between these worlds and even had his own domain as the Alchemist, an infinite and distorted library.
