Azure Striker GunvoltGunvolt Chronicles: Luminous Avenger iX

...Project Muse, was it? Their scheme to control all Adepts? ...How foolish. Once those Sumeragi bastards gain control of these monsters... All that will follow is ruin. That's why all of you Adepts need to be wiped from the Earth. In order for us "humans" to continue to survive.
~ Copen to Gunvolt

Copen (ASG2) (1)
Mytyl has no brother. Just a demon bent on revenge. I can't let her get involved in my battles ever again. From this point on, I have no family. I am only Copen.

Summary

Copen Kamizono is the son of a famous scientist whose research detailed the dangerous threat that Adepts pose to society.

To honor the dying wish of his late father, Copen fights to eradicate all adepts from the world, believing them to be only a danger to society that will eventually turn against humanity, unable to coexist with them. In his Adept hunting days, he would eventually come face to face with the infamous Azure Striker, one who would match him fang and claw in a clash between guns and ideals.

Extremely rash and stubborn, Copen's crusade has never ended until the revelation that his very own twin sister, Mytyl, was what he swore to destroy, an Adept. With this known fact, Copen continues his never-ending vengeance, but in confusion as to whether it is still a fight worth to continue.

Powers and Stats

Tier: 7-A | At least 7-A, higher with Lola's Anthem. High 6-A with Mytyl's Anthem

Key: Azure Striker Gunvolt | Azure Striker Gunvolt 2

Name: Copen Kamizono. Called Acura in Japan. The Adept Slayer

Origin: Azure Striker Gunvolt

Gender: Male

Age: 14 in Azure Striker Gunvolt, 15 in Azure Striker Gunvolt 2 (Comparable to Gunvolt in age)

Classification: Human

Powers and Abilities:

Flight, Hacking (has shown various hacking skills, as well as masking capabilities), limited Telekinesis, Resurrection, Controls small orbs that can use Copen's EX weapons and become sharp called Bits, Extrasensory Perception (Able to detect other Septima)

Unlimited Bullits for infinite Prevasion and Bullit Dashes, Possibly Regeneration (High Godly; History; possibly comparable to Gunvolt's regeneration) and Immortality (Type 3)

All aforementioned abilities as well as:

Resistance to Water Manipulation, Layered Hacking and Layered Technological Manipulation (Possibly 4D; Teseo and Milas are all completely unable to effect his gear with their Septima[6]) | All aforementioned, in addition to Resistance to Absolute Zero (Copen can survive and break free of Tenjian's ice attacks, that are stated to be below absolute zero and can shatter a person's molecular structure), Life Manipulation (capable of fighting Gibril, despite the latter being able to drain away all organic life, and instantly kill organic beings as evidenced by his own Ferrous Fangs), Light Manipulation, Spatial Manipulation, Existence Erasure, Limited Heat Manipulation (while he can still be hit by fire attacks, should likely resist high temperatures like in Viper's Stage), Layered Power Nullification, Power Absorption, Power Erasure, and Layered Magnetism Manipulation, Petrification, Poison Manipulation, Organic Manipulation and Limited Absorption, Metal Manipulation (him and his equipment is resistant to previously studied Septimal abilities in general, including the abilities of all of the Sumeragi Swordsmen and Eden's The Seven)

Regeneration (Low while standing still with Auto-Recover, and at all times during Overdrive with OD Auto-Recover), Statistics Amplification (Damage Buffer, Aerial Guard, Aerial Sniper, Aerial Assassin, Impact Reload and more. In Overdrive, he can also get OD Hardening, which outright nullifies weaker attacks against him, OD Impact Reload, OD Pawn Killer (Increases damage against enemies weaker than Copen) and OD King Slayer (Increases damage against enemies at Copen's level), limited Probability Manipulation (With OD Lucky Surprise, can make Lucky Prevasion and Dash (Which give a 10% chance to prevade or dash without spending a bullit) 10% more likely to happen)

Attack Potency: Mountain level+ (Fought with Gunvolt, defeated a copy of Zonda with relative ease. Considered comparable to a mid-level Adept) | At least Mountain level+ (Able to fight on par with The Seven and Gunvolt, who are this strong), higher with Lola's Anthem (At no point had The Muse's full power, but still would provide a considerable increase in power and should be comparable to Joule's Anthem for most of Gunvolt 2). Multi-Continent level with Mytyl's Anthem

Speed: Relativistic+ movement speed with FTL+ combat speed and reactions (Fast enough to fight on equal terms with Gunvolt. Can keep up with Ghauri, who is this fast, and can dodge his Poetry Slam, which uses crystals to refract and concentrate light from the area into lasers. Some of his attacks utilize actual lasers,[7] and he should be comparable to Viper, who was stated by Jota, an Adept who moves at light speed and weaponizes light with his Photons Guns, to fight as fast as light according to his mannerisms[8]), much higher with Bullit Dashing (Bullit Dashes are much faster than Gunvolt’s Dash)

Lifting Strength: Class M Physically (Is capable of escaping one of Milas's Vortex Rushes despite the latter being powered up by the Muse. It takes a great deal of training to even be able to move around in the Magante Leon,[9] meaning Copen would have to be above the average human in strength). Lola is at least Below Average Human with telekinesis

Striking Strength: Mountain level+ (Can damage enemies physically with shield bashes) | At least Mountain level+ (Able to physically damage The Seven and a copy of Zonda with his attacks), higher with Lola's Anthem. Multi-Continent level with Mytyl's Anthem

Durability: Mountain level+ (Able to take several hits from Gunvolt) higher with his shield (Able to easily block Gunvolt's attacks with no damage, though his shield was broken by Asimov) | At least Mountain level+ (Can easily take hits from The Seven and Gunvolt), higher with Lola's Anthem. Multi-Continent level with Mytyl's Anthem. Prevasion makes him very difficult to kill.

Stamina: Below Average (His armor places a large burden on his body and can't be used for extended fights[10]) | Superhuman (Stormed Eden over the course of seemingly a single night after traveling from Japan to Tashkent. In Eden's base of operations, he destroyed several similarly powered mechs, defeated all members of The Seven, Zonda with the entirety of the Muse and Gunvolt, also empowered with the Muse with seemingly minimal rest, and even outlasted Gunvolt in his own campaign). Can use EX Weapons infinitely with the Infinity Drive Subroutine. He also can take absolutely no knockback from attacks with the Impact Armor subroutine.

Range: Hundreds of Meters with his gun and projectile-based attacks (Border is an actual revolver which fires physical bullets. Considering the futuristic setting, his firearm should be similar in range to firearms of today. Border II is likely a similar case)

Standard Equipment: Border (his revolver), EX Gear, Megante Leon, Multiple Sephimosphones | Lola, Border II his White Tiger Jacket, several subroutes

  • With preparation time: Sabertooth, which is a weaponozed space ship[11]

Intelligence: Above Average in combat, Extraordinary Genius in science and other aspects (At the age of 14, he is more than capable of constructing weapons that can emulate the Septimosome of Adepts he's fought, as well as building them by himself outright. Stated to be a scientist on par with Sumeragi's best. Made a human-like self-teaching artificial intelligence with emotions over a century before corporations were able to create AI that had emotions which can produce “infinite energy” as a “semi-perpetual motion machine”. Able to effortlessly solve a Rubik's Cube in just a few seconds. In combat, is capable of fighting Adepts which physically overpower him, even though his equipment allows him to compete)

Weaknesses: Relies on his gear to fight at his current level. Seriously biased, cold-hearted, and stubborn. Has a headstrong attitude that drives him to hunt down every adept. | Same as before as well as the fact that he won't use Greed Snatcher in character, as he believed he relied on it too much, its overall cost to make bullets for, and in fear that Sumeragi will develop similar technology should he use it often.[12] He still carries it around as seen in the final boss fight and will use it if sufficiently enraged or bloodlusted. Azure Strikers can bypass his prevasion with their lightning. His subroutes take up a certain amount of data on his equipment, and loading too much can cause bugs like reducing Copen's damage, increasing the damage he takes, reducing his health to 1 and disabling subroutes. If Lola is somehow taken out of combat, he would need to control the bits manually, something difficult to do while fighting. Can't use the Heartblazer if he has EX weapons equipped[13]

Notable Attacks and Techniques:

Unlike the Adepts he is destined to fight, Copen has no Septima of his own. Instead, using his extraordinary gift for science and technology, he had made many countless equipment and machines to even the playing field in one on one combat. This allows him to match and even surpass most Adepts, defeating one of the Sumeragi Swordsmen, Zonda, on his own, before proving himself to be a rival in fighting power to the Azure Striker himself, Gunvolt.

While capable of creating advanced AI, drones, and suits that enhance his physical capability, Copen's most impressive feat in terms of his aptitude with science is without a doubt, replicating Septimas from something as simple as a broken piece of a glaive, or even some blood of any dead Adept he comes across. While these creations are not on par with the real deal, Copen sometimes can make improvements or variants of the Septima that can even surpass the original's in terms of effectiveness.

Copen's loadout focuses on offense and defense in order to support his frail human body against the Adepts he faces. The gear mostly revolves on his unique battle style which is all about utilizing the Septima's of deceased Adepts.

Magente Leon

  • Armor that provides artificial enhancement to all of Copen's physical capabilities, though, it takes much training to wield the armor effectively in battle. As a result, Copen cannot last long in a fight.[14]

Border

  • His father's memento. Copen's primary firearm. It has two types of ammunition.
    • By default, fires silver bullets that can pierce even Gunvolt's Flashfield, what would normally destroy or deflect all physical projectiles. However, these bullets are typically swapped out with other bullets depending on what Adept Copen is fighting, so these bullets are likely specialized for Gunvolt himself.
    • Greed Snatcher (グリードスナッチャー、, Greed Snatcher): A weapon derived from Carrera, Copen fires two waves of three magnetic bullets. These bullets have the ability to nullify other's Septimal Power, thus, Power Nullification. Its potency is so great that it can reduce powerful Adepts into almost mere humans in terms of physicality, allowing subsequent attacks to be downright fatal, even killing off the immortal Elise, as well as bypassing the effects of Prevasion, and dispersing all types of phenomenon made possible by Septima.[15] However, it should be noted that these bullets are very expensive to make and Copen is afraid to use them in fear of Sumeragi reverse engineering the technology. This Septima is specifically loaded to this gun because of personal thematic reasons, as the Border was the father of Copen's last memento.[16]

EX Gear

  • Also known as the EX Gear. A bulky shield like device that Copen wields. Each side of the weapon houses a longbow shaped cannon that allows him to fire the Septima of many of Gunvolt's defeated foes. Of course, it can be used like any normal shield, such as for shield bashes, though not initially designed for such. These cannons can be destroyed by others with massively more power than the cannons can handle, such as Asimov.[17]
CopenShield
  • EX Weapon Mirroring System: A system that lets Copen copy the Septima of other Adepts, preferably dead ones. The replicated Septima isn’t as powerful as the original, but it adds to Copen’s versatility nonetheless. This system was incorporated into Lola, starting from Azure Striker Gunvolt 2.
    • Arrogant Radiance (アロガントファング、, Arrogant Fang): A weapon derived from Jota, Copen fires a laser cannon along the ground. Shortly afterward, he fires a swirling lance.
CopenArrogance
    • Blazing Bombers (ブレイジングバリスタ、, Blazing Ballista): A weapon derived from Viper, Copen shoots a flaming arrow that detonates three lingering explosions in its path of the fire.
    • Flesh Eater (ミリオンイーター、, Million Eater): A weapon derived from Stratos, Copen unleashes a slow-moving swarm of energy shaped like insects.
CopenEater
    • Gorgon Gaze (ジェラシックゴルゴン、, Jealousic Gorgon): A weapon derived from Elise, Copen shines a beam of light in front of him, petrifying anybody facing in the direction of the attack temporarily. However, if the source of the light is covered, it will not petrify anything, so as not looking at the light in general.
CopenGaze
    • Lazy Laser (レイジーレーザー、, Lazy Laser): A weapon derived from Merak, Copen fires a giant laser into a wormhole that will reappear at different areas and at different angles on-screen.
CopenLazy

After realizing that he had relied too much on the powers he had stolen instead of his own capability, along with the loss of his now destroyed EX Gear, Copen set out to create a new set of equipment that focused on offense and mobility that would change his fighting style completely. These new tools stem from primarily a handful of the original Septima he has analyzed, but used in new ways completely unheard of.

White Tiger Jacket

  • Copen's new armor has a jetpack structure on his back that is weaker than his previous armor. It utilizes stored electrical energy in bullet shaped cases within itself called "Bullits", achieved by analyzing the Septima of an Azure Striker. The energy is capable of propelling Copen at high speeds into the air in a maneuver called "Bullit Dashing". When he impacts an object or person, he rebounds off them in the other direction, storing the kinetic energy of the impact into electrical energy of a Bullit. This effectively gives him flight as part of his primary skillset. The gear also features boots that allow him to hover in the air indefinitely.[18]

Border II

  • Copen's new primary weapon, instead of using bullets that are specialized for each Adept faced, Copen decided to create a new all-purpose weapon of his own making, instead of relying on others' strength. Thus, studying and utilizing a certain Adept's Septima allowed him to create this firearm. Since it is an all purpose weapon, it only has two modes.[19]
  • Photon Laser: It is capable of firing photons as projectiles. These travel at light speed, as the weapon is based off of a light-based Septima and is designated as a "Photon Blaster".
    • The firearm's most notable trait is the light markings along the bottom part of the weapons barrel. When the bottom part of the barrel is slammed into an enemy (by dashing), these markings "tag" them. "Tags" act like targets that allow his next photon projectiles to curve in trajectory onto his victim, making escape impossible. Other properties of this allow Copen to break through defenses such as shields and certain energy barriers.
      • Can only "tag" one enemy at a time without giving up a pre-existing "tag"
      • This is typically combined with Bullit Dashing.
  • Greed Snatcher: This mode is the same as the Greed Snatcher of the original Border. However, it has a lot of restrictions and safety features, as Copen refrains from using it due to the risk of people finding countermeasures to the effective weapon, such as Gunvolt's suit in the second game, as well as the fact that the bullets used are very expensive.

Prevasion:

  • Perhaps Copen's most formidable subroutine programmed into the White Tiger Jacket. Prevasion is a completely defensive ability that turns Copen's entire existence into electricity itself, becoming completely intangible to any attack. Upon activation, Copen is rendered intangible for seconds, all while being able to attack himself. He had acquired this skill from analyzing the blood of an Azure Striker after their death on Babel, the orbital elevator.
  • However, Prevasion is not a perfect ability, as there any many attacks that go through Prevasion due to very specific means, or for some unknown other reason. However, it has been shown that status effects, such as Petrification, or drowning do work against it.
  • Prevasion, just like the Bullit Dash, uses a Bullit. A good way to tell if Prevasion is currently ready to activate is if Copen leaves many afterimages as he moves.

Reloading: Much like Gunvolt and his EP, at an instant, Copen can reload all of his Bullits. Done in the air- he would have to stomp into the ground in a maneuver called a Reload Crush. Doing this, combined with his ability to use Prevasion can render him in the game's quotation: "Pseudo-Invulnerable" or in Lola's words "basically invincible".

Flashfield: A protective forcefield built, like many of his other new equipment by analyzing the Azure Striker, Asimov's blood. Unlike Gunvolt or Asimov's, he cannot use it for attacking, however, it retains all of its defensive capabilities, and automatically defends Copen from any physical projectile. He cannot use this if he's recently used any of his EX Weapons, specifically, if his EX Weapon Gauge is not full, the shield will not activate.

CopenFlashfield

A combat pod with an advanced, self learning AI Copen created. She is effectively the replacement for Copen's EX Gear, only coming into action after the events of Azure Striker Gunvolt 1, with a personality to boot. Lola controls the bits, small orbs that let Copen use his EX Weapons and allow him to use Healing and Shred Storm. The EX Weapon System is implemented into her, much like the Ex Gear before it.

EX Weapon Mirroring System: Like before, Lola houses the same system as the EX Gear. The various drones that surround Copen go into certain formations to create a specific shape, and fire off a weaker variation of the Septima he had stolen. Each attack takes a portion of Copen's EX Weapon energy at different rates, though most consume the gauge fast. However, this gauge replenishes itself quite fast after a short pause. (GV2 Exclusive)

  • Stellar Spark: Achieved by analyzing the blood of an Azure Striker, the bits fire beams of electricity forward in a long range attack. When he tags an enemy, the bits surround the enemy in a triangular pyramid formation before zapping the tagged opposition.
CopenStellar
  • Hailstorm Blade: Creates ice swords that launch short-range slash waves at rapid pace, dealing increased damage should they both strike the target. This attack will home-in on tagged targets, and is likely below absolute zero in temperature much like the original wielder.
CopenHail
  • Twintail Bunker: Creates two hair drills that can be thrust forwards or upwards to attack, or downwards to boost jumps. Tagging foes causes this weapon to create hair missiles to launch at them.
  • Hydro Zapper: Creates two water orbs that release lasers of water similar to Milas' Hydro Zapper. The lasers will track a tagged foe even if they are tagged while the Hydro Zapper is in mid-flight. This water has a special electrolyte that makes it especially good at disabling technology.
CopenHydro
  • Broad Circuit The bits launch a wide-scale flurry of data similar to Teseo's Data Rain attack. The attack becomes more clustered and hits harder when attacking a tagged foe.
CopenCircuit
  • Ferrous Fang: Launches a shot of blood-like substance. Upon impacting a target, they fly back to Copen and heal minor wounds. These blobs automatically fly towards tagged targets.
CopenFang
  • Prism Break: The bits create and launch a prism similar to Ghauri's Prism Strike. Can be charged for increased size and damage (max size not shown), but will continue to consume energy until he fires the attack. It is possible to fire rapidly with this weapon. This attack will follow "tagged" enemies.
  • Vantage Raid: Launches ring-shaped shots similar to Galette Krone's Wheel Chakrams. Upon impact, they bind the target to prevent them from moving or retaliating. This attack will track anyone Copen has "tagged".

  • Doppler Desire (ラストドプラー、, Lust Doppler): Copen's special attack derived from Zonda. Upon completion, he summons four doppelganger apparitions that briefly circle around him. At the conclusion of this attack, Copen and any remaining copies will ram into the target with their shields. The doppelgangers will disappear at the end of this attack. (GV1 Exclusive)

  • Heartblazer: A massive laser used only in dire situations, when Copen has no EX Weapons installed. It puts Lola into overdrive, thus isn't used in character unless absolutely required. (GV2 Exclusive)
  • Shred Storm (ストライクソウ Strike Saw) Copen has the Bits rapidly slice through everything in his immediate surroundings, decimating everything nearby. (GV2 Exclusive)
CopenShred

  • Healing: Heals him back to full health. This takes about a minute to recharge. (GV2 Exclusive)
  • Guilt Sequence: Using Lola, and not his EX Gear, Copen unleashes a barrage of attacks from the Septima's of Azure Striker Gunvolt 1. He starts with Gorgon Gaze, followed by three wormholes of Lazy Laser, where he fires three shots of Greed Snatcher into, attacking from multiple angles, before firing Arrogant Radiance and Blazing Bombers, and finally using Flesh Eater and his Border II shots simultaneously. (GV2 Exclusive)

~ Guilt Sequence's Haiku
  • Doppler Destroyer: Copen creates four clones similar to Doppler Desire, which attack one by one. If one hits, all of them attack with tagged Border II shots, followed by Copen attacking with a destructive Reload Stomp. (GV2 Exclusive)

Though it taint my heart, I give all to banish sin to oblivion! Doppler Destroyer!

~ Doppler Destroyer's Haiku

  • Anthem: Similar to Gunvolt's, Lola comes out to take in place of Joule this time around to restore Copen's health to full when he is defeated. Copen's Bullits are now infinite, and the power boost is still apparent. Like with Gunvolt, Copen with infinite Bullits means infinite Bullit Dashes and Prevasion. (GV2 Exclusive)

Note: Prevasion is an ability available via default, and therefore is standard equipment. However, Copen with and without Prevasion fights exactly same, and aside from the intro stages of the games, the cast and Copen himself mostly ignore its existence in favor of other defensive options, such as the Bullit Dash- due to actively not relying on it in story. Since he fights effectively the same with or without Prevasion, it can be restricted or disabled for his Azure Striker Gunvolt 2 key. Anthem is a similar story and is not integral to how Copen fights, and can also be restricted.

Note 2: The original translation for Gunvolt 1 on the 3DS and the official translation for Gunvolt 2 are inaccurate to the Japanese versions, and as such statements from those two sources shouldn't be used

Note 3: It should also be noted that Copen's Prevasion in the main timeline is only pierced by the lightning of Azure Strikers due to their control over Electrons, while in Luminous Avenger iX even the lightning used by basic enemies are able to bypass it.

Note 4: Technically, Copen does not need Lola to control the Bits and his EX Weapons or Flashfield as shown in the True Ending of Azure Striker Gunvolt 2, however- Lola is designed specifically to prevent the struggles of multitasking of controlling the Bits at the same time as fighting.[20]
