About now, I'm thinking old TJ has to be regretting that witty line of his: "Is that the best you got, Ultratech?" I mean, who says things like that? And that name! "TJ Combo", what's up with that? Uh, how about "Sir Punchalot", or "Dr. Jab", or, oh wait wait I know: "Mr. Fist"? Pft, loser. Don't get me wrong, I'm not one to talk. It's hard to go by "Ben" when you look like I do. But you know what? I like this new me - stronger, faster, burnier. Ultratech has a plan. And if these pinheads would give it some thought, they'd see they're on the wrong side. But if they really wanna fight it, who am I to complain? It just means I get to have more fun. So bring 'em all on! You know how the saying goes - play with fire... well, you know the rest.
~ Cinder[1]

I would not want to be you today!
~ Cinder's Intro Quote

Summary

Cinder is a hybrid created by Ultratech as the result of Project Cinder, a program meant to uplift humans by combining their genes with Glacius's DNA. He was previously known as Ben Ferris, an agent of the Special Forces who turned to corporate espionage looking for more challenging experiences. It was just a matter of time before he landed a contract on Ultratech, but for the first time he met his match in ARIA, who captured him and reveled that this mission was part of her schemes since the beginning. The AI was impressed by Ben's constant attempt to improve himself over the years, and chose him to be the first product of the Cinder Project, apparently perfectioned after many failed attempts.

And so Ben Ferris was reborn as Cinder, a humanoid able to generate pure plasma who quickly became the best among Ultratech's agents. Thrilled by his newfound powers, Cinder eagerly follows ARIA's orders as long as it means having fun, often battling or executing the enemies of Ultratech. However, his loyalty to the company is all but solid, as Cinder is first and foremost moved by selfish motives and plans to overthrow ARIA at some point.

Combat Traits:

  • Fired Up: A special state that augments the properties of Cinder's special attacks. It is marked by flames burning bright on Cinder's body, which douse once an enhanced attack is performed, and is restored after a few seconds.
  • Burnout: A status effect applied by Cinder when he lands Fission and Inferno, consisting in the opponent's upper and/or lower body being set on fire for a limited time. Throwing punches and kicks when the respective body part is aflame will fan the fire, extending the duration of the Burnout.

  • Third Degree: A combination of three punches delivered in quick succession. It comes in three different versions, varying in speed and power.
  • Crossfire: Cinder turns around and delivers a reverse backflip kick. This attack can also be performed in mid-air.
  • Pyrotechnics: Cinder detonates all the Pyrobombs on the battlefield.

Cinder grabs the opponent and punches them thrice, knocking them down.

  • Pyrobomb: Cinder tosses a small, sticky blob of plasma that explodes after awhile, unless detonated via Pyrotechnics. The Fired Up and Shadow versions are bigger and stronger.
  • Fireflash: Cinder performs a backflip and delivers a rising kick which leaves a fiery trail behind. The Fired Up version is followed by a pillar of fire erupting from the ground, while the Shadow version increases the power of the attack.
  • Trailblazer: Cinder tucks into a ball and dashes forward, upward or downward like a meteor. The Shadow version is stronger.
    • Afterburner: Cinder can perform a second dash in any direction after hitting the opponent. Fired Up allows Cinder to perform a third dash.
  • Inferno: Cinder releases a stream of fire from the palms of his hands. The Fired Up version has increased range, while the Shadow version is ejected in a wave pattern, with increased strength and range.
  • Fission: Cinder claps his hands together and generates a small explosion. This technique can also be used as a feint. The Fired Up and Shadow versions produce a stronger and bigger explosion.

  • Pyromania: Cinder focuses his powers and temporarily enters a permanent Fired Up state.

Cinder is mostly a physical fighter who utilizes kickboxing techniques enhanced by his fiery powers to put pressure on the opponent, knowing that simply making contact with his body can be dangerous to most. Cinder never distances himself too much from the enemy, and tends to stay rather close even when using ranged attacks. Another part of his tactic is to use his great agility and wide variety of movement options to circle around the battlefield or through the air, attacking from different angles and disorienting the opponent while dodging their attacks.

Combos

Ben Ferris was permanently altered by Project Cinder, to the point that he retains an only approximate anthropomorphic appearance. His body doesn't require[6] nutritional sustenance anymore, and spontaneously generates seemingly unextinguishable amounts of pure plasma and fire, which need to be kept under control by a special suit.

Cinder is obviosuly immune to its own products, but has also demonstrated to be resistant to other sources of heat. He was unaffected[3] by the special Fulgores' Plasma Storm, and was the first being after Tusk to wield[8] Warg-Gram, as the sword heats itself up to high temperatures whenever anyone but the immortal barbarian wields it.

Shadow Energy is a source of power mainly found in the Astral Plane, but it also exists in limited quantities within the inhabitants of the Mundane Plane. However, only very few people are able to harness and manipulate such energy. Its most basic property is to passively increase one's statistics proportionally to the amount of Shadow Energy they own. Shadow Energy is very malleable and can be used for a variety of purposes, although only expert wielders, such as the Shadow Lords, are able to use its full potential.

Cinder possesses rudimentary knowledge of how to manipulate Shadow Energy, thus he can only use it to enhance the strength and properties of his Special Moves, turning them into Shadow Moves. Initially these attacks were depicted as marked by a dense and iridescent trail that followed the user, but it was later changed into a purple aura that surrounds the user entirely.

Although it never leaves the user's body under normal conditions, there is an unknown limit to how many times an individual can summon this energy to perform Shadow Moves, before needing to let it recharge, a thing that can also happen in the midst of a battle. The only known downside of emptying one's reserves of Shadow Energy is the inability to perform Shadow Moves, as strength and other statistics don't seem to be affected by this temporary loss.
