Summary
Charlie Anderson is the 17-year-old protagonist of the sci-fi book Escapist Dream and Otaku Girl. A young blonde American geek who suffered loneliness and depression throughout most of his life, Charlie decided to enter the Escapist Dream, a virtual reality world where geeks can roleplay and live a life similar to comic books, films, anime, video games, literature, etc. As a geek, Charlie's purpose of going to the Escapist Dream was to become a real superhero.
As he entered the virtual reality world, he fashioned a costume consisting of a Jedi robe, blue jeans, and a Superman t-shirt. In there, he would meet a colorful cast of people who will become his friends such as Jim Broughton (a British programmer) and Launa Baumrind (one of the admins of the Escapist Dream and one who dresses like a 90s antihero). From them, he would learn that a bunch of computer bugs have infected the virtual reality world, turning the world glitchy and spreading madness across the place. Charlie would then assist them in locating and destroying these bugs, but would later learn that not everything is as it seems in the Escapist Dream.
