Misanthropes (aka Misanthropists) are those who harbor a serious hatred for humanity (or other sapient species in their respective settings) and may even be Genocidal in those regards. Misanthropy can lead to villains committing terrible crimes as they no longer have compassion towards their fellow people and in fact despise them.
Human misanthropes that also want to destroy humanity due to whatever misanthropic reason tend to be hypocrites because they are themselves human and logically cannot survive their own goals.
Non-humans (Aliens, Robots, Animals, Plants, Humanoids, Monsters, etc.) may also be misanthropic as they view humans as stupid, inferior, irredeemably flawed, worthless or oppressive. However, it should be noted that not all are necessarily misanthropic as most are merely following their programming.
While misanthropes despise humanity, they often make exceptions for themselves or their loved ones and can still love and care for certain people.
Take note that not all misanthropes are villains. Some heroes do not like other people due to misunderstandings, genuine very bad experiences, or extremely high standards that others do not live up to.
