I've gotten a bad press, that's all! Deep down, my heart is filled with love.

Summary

Once just a run-of-the-mill thief, Len Snart managed to get his hands on the 'Cold Gun', a piece of strange, futuristic technology capable of freezing seemingly anything it fired at, from people to buildings, from energy constructs to New Gods. With weapon in tole, Snart donned the identity of Captain Cold and quickly became one of Flash's most persistent and deadly foes.

Powers and Stats

Tier: 9-C. At least 7-C with his Cold Gun. Up to High 6-C with Preparation. At least High 6-B with Summoning. Can ignore durability in a variety of ways

Name: Leonard "Len" Snart, Captain Cold, "The Coldest Man Alive", "The Man Who Mastered Absolute Zero", CC, "Temperature Twin/"Thermologic Twin" (along with Heat Wave), Frosty Felon, Cappy, Captain of Calamity (alongside Captain Boomerang and Captain Stingaree), Cold-Hearted Felon

Origin: DC Comics

Gender: Male

Age: Adult

Classification: Rouge Gallery member, Secret Society of Supervillains member

Powers and Abilities:

Cold Manipulation (In addition to being able to freeze and go absolute zero and even below, the Cold Gun can freeze-dry and dehydrate[1]), Ice Manipulation (Regularly freezes foes in blocks of ice, created a "forest of giant icicles"[2], created a massive glacier that kept growing.[1] Can make unique shapes for his ice structures[3]), Statistics Reduction (Can slow down the speed of characters as fast as The Flash down to the point where they're slower then an average person), minor Perception Manipulation (Can cause mirages via freezing his enemies[4] Said mirages can take the forms of people and monsters and can even communicate intelligently.[5]), Absolute Zero (His Cold Gun fires at -460 F.[4] Even his improvised weapon freezes at nearly the same temperature), Forcefield Creation, Radiation Manipulation (His utility belt is equipped with 'negative radiation' shielding, capable of resisting absolute zero.[6] Created "freeze fire" radiation.[7]), Weather Manipulation (Froze a thunder cloud, making it shoot lightning, creates fog to freeze many foes[8]), Air Manipulation (Liquified the air and oxygen in a room, causing hs enemies to drown[5]), Cloth Manipulation (as seen here[5]), Summoning (Can create animated statues, such as animals and giants[5]), Electricity Manipulation, Vibration Manipulation (Created the Northern Lights[5]), Disguise Mastery, Energy Manipulation, Aura (Created an aura of frozen energy[9]), Age Manipulation (de-aged several people, making them at least 40 years younger.[9]), Matter Manipulation (After upgrading the Cold Gun to fire below Absolute Zero, he managed to completely collapse Flash, imbedding him in a picture frame[9]), Illusion Creation (Created fully-colored 'reflections' of the Secret Society[10]), Energy Projection, Energy Manipulation (capable of freezing Star Sapphire's constructs[11]), Paralyzation (can freeze the spaces between molecules, paralyzing and choking an enemy[12]), Longevity (Used his Cold Gun to put him and his girlfriend into stasis, allowing them to hibernate for an entire century[7], Pseudo-Flight (Regularly creates bridges of ice that allow him to travel through the air[13]

Attack Potency: Street level (Overpowered The Penguin.[15] Knocked around Heat Wave[16]) At least Town level+ with his Cold Gun (Froze a lake). Up to Large Island level with Preparation (Created an ice-dome around Central City). At least Large Country level with Summoning (His Frost Giant severely damaged Barry Allen)

Speed: Unknown. At least Subsonic+, likely much higher attack speed with the Cold Gun (Fires at 1,000 feet per second (304 m/s).[14] Intersected the flight of a Green Lantern Robot.[17])

Lifting Strength: Above Average Human (briefly lifted The Penguin with one hand[15]).Varies with freezing as he can intentionally make his ice less hard. At least Superhuman (Froze a group of charging linebackers, froze Clayface[11]) possibly at most Multi-Stellar with his Cold Gun at full power (created ice strong enough to trap Mantis[10])

Striking Strength: Street level

Durability: At least Street level (Largely unharmed after being tossed with enough force to seemingly break machinery.[11] Took hits from Abracadabra[18]), possibly far higher (Survived an attack from Mantis, though instantly got knocked out, took a hit from Gorilla Grodd[11])

Stamina: Superhuman (After nearly getting crushed alive, managed to track down the Cosmic Treadmill and traveled into the future to fight Abra Kadabra)

Range: Several Meters with Cold Gun (Has a sniper scope, implying the total range is at least this much), higher with he Winterizer (Froze four city blocks)

Standard Equipment: Cold Gun, his utility belt, and his suit.

  • Cold Gun: A gun capable of shooting Absolute Zero, and after its upgrade, even below that burst of cold energy. Capable of freezing entire lakes, buildings, steel, and most commonly, any type of floor. Moreover, the Cold Gun can freeze humans or severely slow them down, reducing even The Flash to an utter crawl. Over the years, the Cold Gun got a variety of upgrades and special powers, allowing it to de-age individuals, manipulate matter, creating animate objects
  • Utility Belt: Not gone into as much detail as the Cold-Gun, but Captain Cold's utility belt is filled with many gadgets to aid him in his adventures. Most notably, the ability to freeze much larger areas with the press of a button and create radiation-based force-fields to protect him against said cold.
  • Cold Suit: His Cold-Suit allows him to protect himself against the cold that he creates. It also protects against fire to some extent.

Optional Equipment: The Instant-Winterizer

  • The Instant-Winterizer: A much larger Cold-Gun that froze four city blocks in a short period of time.[19]

Intelligence: Extraordinary Genius (Although initially a lowly crook, Captain Cold exposure to the Cold Gun has, over time, made him an expert in all things relating to the cold. This extended to him modifying the Cold Gun to perform feats that even modern scientist struggles with, such as going below Absolute Zero, as well to him creating other cold-based weapons, sometimes within prison with incredibly limited reasons. After he briefly retired as a superhero, he gained a job at a prestigious college as a lecturer on thermodynamics. In addition, he created a disease that affects one's mentality in subtle ways. He is, however, not a great fighter (though skilled in battling Flash) and very gullible (especially if women is involved))

Weaknesses: A hopeless romantic, Captain Cold will try to woo any beautiful lady in his presence. This has, at times, been used to his advantage as it has inspired him to craft up devious schemes and innovate his ice powers, but has also been a detriment as well, distracting him and causing great misery if betrayed by said woman of his affections.[7]

Notes:

  • Although this is technically the same Captain Cold used in the Post-Crisis continuity, for the sake of keeping both profiles concise, they will be split at Crisis on Infinite Earths.
  • It should be noted that Captain Cold does not scale in speed to The Flash or any other fast characters he's fought (such as Mantis). He manages to fight Flash via predicting their movements and placement based off their tactics and location and fires there. Likewise, he'll often make a wide-area attack in hopes that it snags Flash (as if often does).
