I know he sees me as some master key to unlocking the secrets of the universe. It'd be easy to get lost in all that. But for me-- I still crave the little things. Like dinner. Conversation. Possibilities.

Somewhere you've apparently never been... Inside the upper realms of the Quantum Field.

Thousands of years from now, this energy is what I will become.
~ Present Nathaniel speaking about his future self, Chrono Mota

Summary

Nathaniel Adam was an airforce captain before he became part of Doctor Heinrich Megala's experiment to prove the M-Theory correct and discover something amazing. However, the experiment was a failure and Nathaniel Adam was considered dead for a brief period of time. In reality, Nathaniel had become a phantom, a ghost who recreated a body for himself from nothing. Once he returned back from the "dead", Nathaniel found himself changed on the deepest level possible. With the new found power, Nathaniel became the Quantum-powered hero known as Captain Atom.

Powers and Stats

Tier: Varies. 4-B, higher in Evolved Form, up to High 1-C with Absorption and in Unrestricted State

Name: Nathaniel Adam, Cameron Scott, Vince Mallory (an alias he used when he was hurled back in time)

Origin: DC Comics

Gender: Male

Age: Likely in his 40s

Classification: Super soldier

Powers and Abilities:

Attack Potency: Varies (Captain Atom's power levels vary greatly, and he has complete control over the output of his power levels. He can power himself down and up at will. In addition, he is mentally and emotionally somewhat unstable, which also tend to mess with his powers. Furthermore, his unstable physical form causes fluctuations in his power levels from time to time. And he can control how much power to draw from the Quantum Field). Solar System level (In an alternate vision, a Quantum-powered gorrila was able to overpower the Justice League. This was a vision shown to future Captain Atom who saw potentially different possibilities and how his powers could have been used differently. A burst of quantum flare proved too much for Hal Jordan to contain with his shield and left a portion of the city destroyed.[16] Captain Atom has access to the infinite energies of the Quantum Field[17]), higher in Evolved Form (However, it was hinted that in some ways, he might be superior to his former, unstable self.[21] Captain Atom has access to the infinite energies of the Quantum Field[17]), up to High Complex Multiverse level with Absorption (Absorbed his future selves, who were far more potent than him, and fought his universe-destroying self for a brief period of time, before the latter was erased from history[6][7]) and in Unrestricted State (If he were to stop holding back, give up on his humanity, and embrace his true power, he can become a space-time eating energy monster[6][7])

Speed: Massively FTL+ usually (Can keep up with the Flash and had a long conversation in a fraction of a microsecond where everything was frozen.[2] Perceives time at a much slower rate[2]), higher in astral form (Caught up to Dr Megala's astral form who crossed interstellar distances in an extremely short period of time.[4][3] Outpaced the expansion of energy and matter from the big bang. Kept up with the Big Bang as the universe was being created[3])

Lifting Strength: Unknown usually, at least Class 5 in evolved form (Lifted a large boudler with one hand[21])

Striking Strength: Varies. Solar System level, higher in Evolved Form, up to High Complex Multiverse level with Absorption and in Unrestricted State

Durability: Varies. Solar System level, higher in Evolved Form (Can take attacks from those whom he can harm. Casually tanked a 100-kiloton bomb[17]), up to High Complex Multiverse level with absorption (Survived a few hits from his universe-destroying future self[7]) and in Unrestricted State

Stamina: Infinite. Never seems to run out of stamina. In addition, he is very closely connected to the Quantum Field, so he can draw upon its infinite energies.

Range: Up to Planetary with energy attacks, Interdimensional with dimensional travel

Standard Equipment: None notable

Intelligence: Genius. Nathaniel was never a smart person, but after acquiring his power, he had no choice but to learn more about the field of science, otherwise he would have not been able to use his powers in a proper manner. He needed to learn how matter and energy works so he can use his powers efficiently.[10][9] When healing the cancer of Ratina, he followed the instructions of Dr Megala perfectly to the point where he was able to create tissues and proteins.[13] Was able to outsmart an angry Dr. Megala, albeit in a very small way.[5] Was able to deduce how Megala was controlling Firestorm in a matter of seconds.[15]

Weakness: Constantly shifting energies and molecules can weaken him momentarily as he cannot adjust to the ever-changing pattern.[1][5] However, he was able to overcome these obstacles very quickly.[1] Absorbing too much energy or radiation has bad side-effects on his body.[10][13] In addition, absorbing too much leaves him weak for a short period of time.[13] Captain Atom has too much power, so he tried to help people by being a miracle worker, however, that created a chain reaction which led him to reaching his full potential and was going to destroy the entirety of the time-space continuum. Therefore, he avoids helping people and using too much power in fear of becoming a God again.[5][6] Radiated bullets can temporarily nullify his Quantum aura.[14]

Notable Attacks/Techniques

  • Hold back: Captain Atom holds back for a variety of reasons, be it his internal conflict, or his fear of becoming a God again. In addition, if he doesn't hold back, he could bring about the death of countless people.
  • Matter and energy over fists: Captain Atom rarely ever fights physically, as he has no need for it. Instead, he fights by using his energy and matter-related powers as they do the job much better.
  • Absorption: When faced with attacks, Captain Atom will try to absorb as much as of it as he can, so the damage to the people and environment around him is minimized. In addition, he can draw upon those powers to enhance his own abilities.

Notes:

  • This only covers Captain Atom from the Post-Flashpoint timeline, and not his Post-Crisis incarnation or the original incarnation of the character from Charlton Comics.
  • Quantum-powered individuals in this continuity share similar physical characteristics, as well as similar abilities and weaknesses. Therefore, some of these abilities and weaknesses, such as absorption, are interchangeable.
