Birdie Street Fighter
Hehe... The taste of my chain... Delicious, ain't it?
~ Birdie[1]

AlphaBirdie2
I am Birdie! The most rotten villain in the World... I hope!
~ Birdie[2]

SF1Birdie

Summary

Birdie is one of the characters who debuted in the first game of the series, and later returned with a drastic change in design and personality, most notably his loved hair and signature chains. He used to be a heel wrestler, until he grew unable to endure the laughter and contempt, and was expelled after having hospitalized several colleagues. He then alternated working as a bouncer in a bar to small illegal activities, becoming renowned in the underground for his great strength.[3]

Upon learning of Shadaloo, Birdie sought to enter the organization with the aim of taking it over for himself. M. Bison granted him a role as a guinea pig for a variety of experiments, and despite being aware that he was just being used, Birdie enjoyed the free food given him after every test. Over time he gained weight, softened his attitude and eventually left Shadaloo when they prompted him to wear a hat that would have ruined his hairstyle. After a period on the run, he reached the Kanzuki Estate, where Karin decided to host him in order to test her ability as a leader. From there on he worked as a handyman in exchange for delicious and expensive meals.

He weights 230 kg (111 kg in SFA), is 2.16 meters tall, likes beer, beef jerky, food, making money, and dislikes children, police and an empty stomach.[4][5][6][7]

Attack Potency: Unknown (Sickness hindered[9] his performances and it is unknown how well he has fared in the tournament) | Small Building level (His strength was recognized[10] by M. Bison, who then offered him[11] a position in Shadaloo; He did the same[6] to Adon, who destroyed the head of a giant Buddha statue) | Small Building level (Struggles to even just fend off[12] characters such as F.A.N.G and Chun-Li, with whom he used to be on the same level in the past, most likely because of his current physical shape. Nonetheless, he can fight equally[13] with Ibuki and defeat Dolls such as Aprile and[14] Fevrier. Karin considers him a valid sparring partner,[12] although he can't compete with her when she gets serious[15])

Speed: Unknown | Subsonic travel speed, with Supersonic+ reaction and combat speed (Comparable to other Shadaloo executives) | Subsonic travel speed, with Supersonic+ reaction and combat speed (Slower than before, but still capable of fighting on par with Ibuki and keep up with the likes of Chun-Li. Lifting Strength: Unknown | Class 50 (Stated to have an immense strength, which he used to hook up a train wagon with his chains and throw it into the air) | Superhuman to Class 1 or Class 5 (Weaker than before but to an unknown degree, should be somewhat comparable to other characters in his league and is still depicted as powerhouse from time to time.)

May have completed the Kanzuki-ryu "one hundred man kumite"[12]. Assists Karin in her daily training, which is comprised of 1000 bouts[16], although it is unknown if he can go through all of them)

Is fairly skilled in criminal activities and knew that Shadaloo was just using him.[6] Has masterful control over his chains, which are used for many complex techniques. Stated to be a great fighter[4] and his style is mostly self-made. Karin considers him a good training partner. Has proven his worth against formidable opponents, including more than ten trained assassins sent after him[7])

Weaknesses: Hindered by sickness to an unknown degree | Shows many openings[7] and has many unnecessary movements | Likely the same as in SFA. Gets hungry very fast and is often led astray[4] by his appetite

Notable Attacks and Techniques:

  • Bull Drop: Birdie puts his hands in his pockets and kicks upward, then brings the heel down for a second hit.
  • Bull Charge: Birdie enters a three-point stance and tackles the opponent.
  • Bull Slider: Birdie dives forward and slides on his belly to headbutt the opponent's legs.
  • Bad Hammer: Birdie clenches his fists together and uppercuts the opponent. He then swings his hands down, hammering the opponent onto the floor.
  • Body Press: Birdie leaps and dives above the opponent with his whole body.

  • Bad Skull: Birdie grabs the opponent by the collar, lifts them up and knocks them down with a powerful headbutt.
  • Bad Chain: Birdie wraps the opponent up with his chains and kicks them in the gut. He then turns around and flips them over his shoulder.
  • Unnamed: Birdie uses several throws which lack an official name:
    • Birdie grabs the opponent and headbutts them five times.
    • Birdie wraps his chains around the opponent's neck and launches them upward.
    • Birdie grabs the opponent with both hands and tosses them above shoulders.

  • Bull Head: Birdie rams at the opponent as his body turns red (not in SFA) and delivers a fierce headbutt. When empowered by Enjoy Time, Birdie tackles the opponent with his whole body, powering through weaker attacks, before headbutting them. The EX version adds a second headbutt.
  • Bull Horn: Birdie spins and attacks with a rising headbutt. When powered up by Enjoy Time, Birdie hits twice and sends the opponent flying upward. With the EX version, he charges at the opponent head-first, and upon hitting them, he turns around and delivers an arced headbutt.
  • Killing Head: Birdie grabs the opponent and headbutts them up to three times, before delivering a final Bull Head. With the EX version, Birdie delivers six initial headbutts before the final one.
  • Hanging Chain: Birdie swings his chain and captures grounded and airborne opponents, before slamming them either on the floor or onto the wall. With the EX version, he smashes them on the ground twice. Birdie can delay the swing and keep twirling the chain before launching it.
  • Bull Revenger: Birdie pulls out his chains and leaps towards the opponent, trying to catch them. If successfull, he wrap them up and slams them onto the ground twice, before flipping them over. With the EX version, Birdie slams them thrice.
  • Murderer Chain: Birdie hangs the opponent with his chains and slams them onto the ground twice, before tossing them away.
  • Bandit Chain: Birdie hangs the opponent with his chains and swings his arms up and down thrice, slamming the opponent onto the floor in the process.

  • Bull Revenger: Birdie leaps towards the opponent, then performs Bandit Chain and Murderer Chain in rapid succession.
  • The Birdie: Birdie delivers three Bull Heads in a row, stunning them. He then mocks the opponent and finishes with two more Bull Heads.
  • Skip To My Chain: Birdie combs his air and performs Bull Head, launching the opponent horizontally. They are then pursued by Birdie's chain, which are wrapped around their body as they tumble down and get pulled back. Birdie "skips ropes" with them twice, performs a triple under and then does a somersault which leads to the opponent being slammed right into the ground.

  • Bull Crush: Birdie quickly dashes backwards to dodge an incoming attack and replies with a fast and powerful arcing headbutt that strikes the opponent before they are able to react, knocking them down.
  • Pepper Pot: After blocking an attack, Birdie sneezes and pushes the opponent back.
  • Break Time: Birdie eats a doughnut, restoring or increasing a little of his stamina.
    • Banana Time: Birdie eats a banana and tosses the peel on the ground, which can trip the opponent.
    • Drink Time: Birdie chugs a can of soda and throws it rolling on the ground as a projectile.
  • Chewing Time: Birdie swallows a bubble gum and restores a little of his stamina. He also has access to two follow-up moves:
    • Blow Bubble: Birdie blows up a bubble, forming a shield that blocks one attack. He can also walk around with the bubble set up on his mouth.
    • Bubble Gum: Birdie releases the bubble like a projectile that deals minor damage and acts as a distraction. He can make the bubble pop immediately, bounce on the ground of fly forward in an arc.
  • Enjoy Time: Birdie swallows a whole chili pepper and burps out flames, which can occasionally burn the opponent. His body turns red and he becomes stronger and faster. Bull Head and Bull Horn obtain new properties.
  • Birdie Time: Birdie swallows a large chili pepper and burps flames that heat-up his chains, making Hanging Chain and Bull Revenger more powerful. With this technique, he can also occasionally burn the opponent.
    • Bull Swing: Birdie swings his chain horizontally and pulls the opponent closer to him, while leaving them open to further attacks.
    • Bull Capture: Birdie swings his chain low, targeting the opponent's legs and bringing them close, just like he dos with Bull Swing. It can also be used to hit banana peels and soda cans, moving them across the battlefield.

Birdie is a full-fledged brawler, utilizing with a violence-based style developed in years of street fighting and numerous scuffles, with some traits inherited from his past as a pro wrestler. He is particularly fond of headbutts, and his main tactic is to hit hard and fast before the opponent figures out his weaknesses. Birdie uses his chains in many ways, such as ensnaring people and objects with them, or defend from enemy attacks. These chains are bulletproof and can even block gunfire.[14]

Despite his flaws, Birdie has shown from time to time the ability to hold his own against expert fighters, and his skill has somewhat being praised by Karin. When the Shadaloo assassins (the Dolls) tried to murder him, he disarmed one of them pointing a gun at his temple the moment she was pulling the trigger, and quickly disposed of other ten, showing a certain ingenuity in using the environment to his advantage.[7]
