Summary
Billy Hargrove was the son of Neil Hargrove and step-brother of Max Mayfield. Billy was raised in an abusive household, where his father would abuse him and his mother. This caused Billy to grow violent and hateful as he grew up. Eventually, his father married Max's mother, and they would eventually move to Hawkings, Indiana, in 1984, where he began attending Hawkings High School. Billy quickly became popular among his classmates, and got hailed as the "New King of Hawkings High", taking over the place of Steve. Eventually, Billy was tasked by his father to find Max, who had been out all night. He found her at the Byers house, where he went head-to-head with Steve. Billy was about to win the said confrontation, until his sister knocked him out with a sedative and forced him to not bother her or her friends again.
In 1985, Billy was possessed by The Mind Flayer, becoming the leader of the Mind Flayer's "Flayed". Eventually, he managed to build the Mind Flayer's Proxy out of the other Flayed and was about to use this monster to kill Eleven, until he managed to break out of the possession and sacrifice himself to save El's life.
