I think we should be very careful about what we're going to do.
~ Bigby's pet phrase

Summary

The old goat comes up with one good gimmick, and beats it to death with a rock.
~ Khelben Blackstaff

Bigby, sometimes known as Bigby the Great, was a legendary spellcaster from the Sphere of Oerth. A resident of the Flanaess, Bigby was most known as the traveling companion of Mordenkainen, and a prominent member of the Circle of Eight, marking him as one of the most prolific mages of that plane of existence. Among his many deeds of greatness, Bigby has scribed countless famous spells through his years, each with the theme of a hand- for example, Bigby's crushing hand and Bigby's clenched fist are both attributed to the master wizard.

Throughout his adventures, Bigby has fought with many of the most powerful beings one could possibly face- among them, Vecna, Iuz the Old, and Kas the Bloody Handed. Additionally, Bigby is a decorated war veteran, having aided in grand-scale combat movements all across the Flanaess, repelling fiendish invasions and peasant rebellions alike[1][2]. However, despite his power, Bigby would find his greatest foe not in any devious demigod or demon risen from the abyss- rather, Rary, a fellow wizard, and Robilar, a lord of Greyhawk, betrayed the Circle of Eight and slew both Otiluke and Tenser before retreating to initiate the Greyhawk Wars. This event was single-handedly the most devastating attack to the Circle of Eight yet, for the mages were killed in such a way that bringing them back proved essentially impossible (though Tenser would resurface at a later date).

He was known for a quiet demeanor, an inclination towards caution, and his puritanical nature. He was born in the land known as the Great Kingdom before being exiled by the corrupt rulers. Following the Greyhawk Wars and Rary's Betrayal, he had retired from adventuring and, in addition to serving on the council of Greyhawk, he fronts as a merchant and organizes his laboratories that lay below his house.
