Nothin' feels as satisfyin' as knockin' chumps out with these here fists!
~ Balrog[1]

Balrog (StreetFighterV)
There's no escape!
~ Balrog[2]

Summary

Balrog, known as M. Bison (マイク・バイソン Maiku Baison) in Japan, is a character from the Street Fighter series. He first appeared as a boss character in Street Fighter II.

Balrog is generally self-centred, hot-tempered, arrogant, and sadistic. He is a belligerent pugilist who possesses an insatiable urge for money and a vicious, bullying mean streak, often refusing to take responsibility for his actions. Despite being a once great prize boxer, Balrog has intentionally cheated in his fights whenever he felt like it, and has even killed one of his opponents (though by accident).

Powers and Stats

Tier: 9-A

Name: Balrog, M. Bison (in Japan), Boxer (international “neutral” name)

Origin: Street Fighter

Gender: Male

Age: 30s-40s

Classfication: Human, Boxer, Member of the "Four Kings of Shadaloo"

Powers and Abilities: Superhuman Physical Characteristics, Boxing Champion, Acrobatics (Can flip in mid-air to land on his feet and perform recovery rolls upon touching the ground), minor Air Manipulation (Can create gusts of wind with his punches and small vortices via FFB), minor Instinctive Reaction (Dodges punches out of sheer instinct[3] and reflexes), Berserk Mode (Goes berserk[3] when things get heated), Damage Boost (Can perform enhanced versions of his Special Attacks. FFB boosts his Dash Straight. Can charge the power of his Turn Punch), Status Effect Inducement (By hitting the opponent repeteadly, without them being able to recover, he can cause them to enter the “Stun” status, which leaves them unable to react. His Focus Attack causes the opponent to enter a “crumpling” status), limited Resistance to Precognition (Reading the future of fighters such as him is difficult, because they always fight[4] against it)

Attack Potency: Small Building level (Is on equal footing with Vega and F.A.N.G[5]. Can fight evenly with Zangief[6], Chun-Li[7], Dudley[8], Fei Long[9] and Alpha 3 Birdie[10]. Easily overwhelmed[6] Rainbow, Mika and Ibuki. Has defeated[5] Base Necalli. Due to his position in Shadaloo, he should be comparable to Adon, who destroyed the head of a giant Buddha statue and was offered[11] a similar position by M. Bison thanks to his strength)

Speed: Subsonic Travel Speed (Should be at the very least comparable to, if not faster than Dan Hibiki, who's consistently portrayed as the least physically impressive character of the series), with Supersonic+ reaction and combat speed (Can keep up with fast opponents such as Vega and Chun-Li. The speed of his punches has been compared[11] to Dudley's and is able to burst forward at great speed[11])

Lifting Strength: Class 5 (Stronger than Cammy and comparable to Vega and other characters who can jump up to about 8 meters. Rainbow Mika struggled to restrain him[6])

Striking Strength: Small Building level (A powerful heavy hitter among the characters on his level. Made Zangief stagger with a punch[6]. Can casually break tables[12] and crack concrete walls[5])

Durability: Small Building level (Can take hits from characters on his own level, such as Zangief. Rainbow Mika and Ibuki's attacks were ineffective on him)

Stamina: Athletic (A well-trained fighter)

Range: Standard Melee Range

Standard Equipment: Boxing Gloves

Intelligence: Average, Above Average in combat (Known for not being particularly smart, to act like a brute and rely on his instinct, but has a good amount of combat skill. He grew in the slums, fighting with other kids and learned to box by himself[11], eventually becoming a proclaimed and undefeated champion. After having been thrown out of the professional circuit, he was noticed by M. Bison and became general of Shadaloo, with tasks such as disposing of specific people and work as M. Bison's bodyguard. Despite his ferocious style, he knows several techniques, often accompanied by dirty tricks, and is able to fight on equal ground with ninjas and martial artists. Has taught Ed all he knows about boxing. He is a skilled gambler[13] and could tell[12] that one of his opponents was cheating.)

Weaknesses: Balrog is cocky, quick-tempered and sometimes underestimates his opponents.

Balrog can stand still and charge this move to increase the damage dealt by several times. While turning around, Balrog can also dodge projectiles.

  • Gigaton Blow: Balrog delivers a Dash Straight, followed by a Dash Upper that sends the opponent flying. Balrog then charges a devastating Turn Punch and strikes the falling opponent.

  • Violent Buffalo: Balrog punches his fists together and dashes forward, delivering five savage punches. The attack can be a series of Dash Straight, Dash Upper or a combination of both.
    • Dirty Bull: Balrog grabs the opponent by the head and instantly headbutts them off-balance, then proceeds to violently stomp on the opponent's foot and finishes them off by whiffing a cross punch, delivering a powerful elbow strike across their face instead.
    • Gigaton Blow:: Balrog delivers a powerful straight punch that launches the target upwards.

    • Buffalo Headbutt: After blocking an attack, Balrog performs Buffalo Head and knocks the opponent backwards.
    • Buffalo Breaker: Balrog quickly dashes backwards to dodge an incoming attack and replies with a powerful gut punch that strikes the opponent before they are able to react, knocking them down.
    • KKB: Balrog twirls his body while moving forward, dodging incoming projectiles. He can also use this to stop the charge of any of his Special Attacks. This move features a couple of follow-up options:
      • Buffalo Swing: A hook punch.
      • Buffalo Pressure: A huge downward hook that breaks the guard of crouching opponents.
    • FFB: Balrog covers up and bobs from side-to-side several times until his upper body burst with steam, amplifying his next Dash Straight.
    • Crazy Rush: Balrog winds his arm up a couple of times upon activation. Steam arises from his body as a symbol of his increase in intensity. While this V-Trigger is active, Balrog can chain together various punches and mix together. He can also start the combo with a Dash Grand Blow and perform the entire sequence with EX versions of his moves, increasing the total damage.
      • Charging Buffalo: A series of Dash Straight.
      • Bursting Buffalo:A series of Screw Smash.
    • No Mercy: Balrog flexes his bicep as steam arises from his body, signifying his increase in intensity. While this V-Trigger is active, Balrog gains access to a new grab:
      • B3: Balrog grabs his opponent and delivers a huge headbutt to his opponent's head. Balrog then hits his opponent with a punch to their sternum, followed by an uppercut to their solar plexus, launching them upward. As his opponent is about to drop down, Balrog hit them with a vicious hook to the back of their head, dropping his opponent on their stomach right in front of him. This move has a high stunning effect.
