~ Baldur to Kratos, mistaking him for the Jötunn Guardian |
Summary
Baldur is the son of Odin and Freya. At some point in his life, his mother learned from the runes that he would die a "needless death". Determined to prevent his death at any cost, Freya placed a spell on him that made him invulnerable to all threats, physical or magical. However, the spell had a side-effect of removing Baldur's ability to physically feel anything. He could no longer feel anything from pain and pleasure to even the temperature of wherever he stood. Baldur’s pleas to Freya to lift the spell fell on deaf ears, and Freya insisted that Baldur would thank her for it. As a result, Baldur was driven mad, and he was consumed with hatred for his mother and vowed to never forgive her.
Later Baldur conflicts with Kratos and Atreus when he tries to track Jötunn Guardian (which was Laufey) at Odin's request and becomes the main antagonist of the game.
Powers and Stats
Tier: Low 1-C
Name: Baldur, The Stranger, God of Light, Son of Odin, The Man Who Cannot Be Killed
Origin: God of War
Gender: Male
Age: 144 years old at the time of his death (Was born 145 years prior to the events of Lore and Legends, which itself takes place a year after the game's events, where Kratos kills Baldur[1])
Classification: Aesir, partial Vanir, Odin's best tracker, Norse God of light, half-brother to Thor and Týr
Powers and Abilities:
- Superhuman Physical Characteristics
- Runic Magic
- Immortality (Type 1, 3 and 8, reliant on his curse)
- Master Hand-to-Hand Combatant
- Regeneration (At least Low-Mid; Even without his curse Baldur regenerated from being completely impaled and disemboweled by the Blades of Chaos in some seconds,[2] can effortlessly regenerate extremely deep wounds that would have done organ Damage.[3] Can regenerate lethal injuries such as a broken neck in at the absolute most days with his spell,[3] Possibly High-Godly- Conceptual; As Freya's spell granted Baldur "Invulnerability to all threats, physical or magical"[4] in the form of endless regeneration, it should allow Baldur to regenerate from any method of self-harm he had available to himself over the past hundred years, which would include having his body utterly erased from existence by falling off of the branches and into the Realm Between Realms surrounding Yggdrasil[5] or having his soul and body completely consumed in the Light of Alfheim[6])
- Ice Manipulation, Fire Manipulation, Light Manipulation and Power Absorption (Absorbed Leviathan's ice powers and the explosion from the undead Thamur's ring gave him fire powers[2])
Resistance to the following:
- Fire Manipulation, Holy Manipulation, and Chaos Manipulation (Could withstand being immolated by the Blades of Chaos numerous times)
- Sense Manipulation (Complete lack of all sensations with his spell)
- Death Manipulation (Freya stated that death would have no power over him thanks to the spell[7])
- Ice Manipulation (Could not be frozen by the temperatures of Helheim and endured cold waters. Withstood Leviathan's attacks and absorbed them instead to gain new ice-based abilities[2])
- Poison Manipulation (Easily absorbed an Eitr-imbued Leviathan's powers post-curse without any issues and healed from its wounds very easily[2])
- Soul Manipulation, Mind Manipulation and Memory Manipulation, Madness Manipulation (Type 3), Probability Manipulation, Conceptual Manipulation (Type 1), Status Effect Inducement, Statistics Reduction and Deconstruction (Souls are constructs of magic, composed of their form, the metaphysical nature of a being, their luck, their mind and their direction. With his curse that makes him invulnerable to all magical threats, he should be able to withstand the Light of Alfheim, where all souls return to and become one with, and is capable of driving one insane and destroying anything that touches the light[8], said Light also being a Primordial Force having existed before Odin and the Realms[8], keeping the Realms separate with its light[9] and also transcending them altogether[10], with the Light of Alfheim also being able to weaken foes[11] and deal significant stun damage[12]. With and without his curse, he can withstand attacks from the Leviathan Axe, which can split souls. Damaging souls can shatter and fragment their memories as a consequence[13])
Attack Potency: Low Complex Multiverse level (Weaker than Sigrun but ultimately on a similar level, as he could challenge a rusty and weakened Kratos to the same degree as Valkyries, which are about on par with Atreus during Ragnarok)
Speed: Infinite (Can keep up with an out-of-practice Kratos)
Lifting Strength: Immeasurable (Managed to compete with an out-of-practice Kratos, though he was ultimately weaker and overwhelmed)
Striking Strength: Low Complex Multiverse level
Durability: Low Complex Multiverse level (Took multiple blows from an out-of-practice Kratos, albeit the latter threatened to completely splinter all of Baldur's bones after the curse wore off[14]). His inability to feel pain makes him able to endure more blows and attacks from those comparable to him, though he can still get dazed out by sufficiently strong blows
Stamina: Superhuman (Should be at least comparable to a Demigod Kratos, who can climb Pandora's Temple for three days straight. With the spell, he can't feel pain and doesn't need to eat or sleep)
Range: Standard Melee Range. Hundreds of Meters with ice and fire abilities
Standard Equipment: None
Intelligence: Above Average (Was Odin's best tracker. Escaped from Helheim)
Weaknesses: Mistletoe (Which removes his spell). With the spell, he loses all forms of sensation, and it does not prevent him from being fazed by powerful-enough blows. His countless years spent without being able to feel anything at all has left him insane and reckless.
