Key: Pre-Second Division Training | Post-Second Division Training
Name: Aoi Kaguragi
Origin: Kaiju No. 8
Gender: Male
Age: Unknown (In order to join the Defense Force, one must be at least 18 years old.[1])
Classification: Human, Second Division Officer, Third Division Officer (formerly), Japan Ground Self-Defense Force Officer (formerly)
Powers and Abilities:
- Superhuman Physical Characteristics
- Martial Arts and Weapon Mastery (As a former JGSDF, he ought to be familiar with their self-defense and combat techniques Jieitaikakutōjutsu. Stated to be pretty skilled in Kendo according to Soshiro Hoshina[2])
- Energy Manipulation and Energy Projection (The series' energy attacks are not only able to create explosion, but are also hot enough that upon direct contact, they can vaporize rocks, concrete, steel, and even the human body, leaving behind only a few drops of blood, even an indirect contact is potent enough.[3][4] The potency of this is dependent on one's combat power, an example being that Gen Narumi with Defense Force was okay with an indirect exposure[5] while a regular solider wasn't[4] and another example being that Kafka could easily withstand a Fortitude 6.4 Kaiju's energy attack[6] yet resorted to deflecting and avoiding Kaiju No. 9's[7], despite both foes being weaker than him fortitude level-wise. In particular, Aoi’s Custom Weapon, PB-3115, allows the creation and generation of energy-based attacks to devastating effect[8])

- Non-Standard Breathing (Type 2; All officers wear half-face elastomeric air-purifying respirators and full-face gas masks that not protect officers from kaiju's bodily fluid and gasses, but helps with their breathing in combat)
- Explosion Manipulation via Grenades
- Flash-Freezing via Freeze Grenades
- Light Manipulation, Sound Manipulation and Status Effect Inducement (Via stun grenades)
- Elemental Manipulation (Can load various Kaiju-enhanced rounds that enhance his shots with elemental properties - these include Explosive, Ice, Electricity and Light Manipulation)
- Damage Boost (Through a burst of emotion, a Defense Force officer can boost the elemental potency of their rounds. Kaiju No. 9, a Daikaiju superior to Reno Ichikawa, chooses to use body shields to block Reno's enhanced freeze rounds instead of directly withstanding them,[9] despite having previously resisted Reno's freeze rounds[10])
- Heat Manipulation via Burst Rounds
- Flash-Freezing, Limited Durability Negation and Statistics Reduction via Freeze Rounds
- Paralysis Inducement via Conductor Rounds
- Minor Light Manipulation (Defense Force Pistols are equipped with a tactical light that can be used to temporarily blind and disorient targets)
- Damage Boost (To combat a more powerful foe, the Defense Force's marksman weaponry have the capacity to boost their piercing power[11])
- Energy Emission (When unleashing the combat power of their equipment, it emits electrical-like energy that can not only destroy the officer's surroundings[12] but can also hurt[13] and paralyze[14] those who come into contact with it. Even after utilizing their equipment's combat power, officers have the capability to emit this electrical-like energy from their attacks[15])
- Danmaku (The Defense Force rifle-type weapons have enough ammo to maintain fire for a long time,[16] so they qualify for this ability)
- Martial Arts, Weapon Mastery, and Marksmanship (All Japanese Defense Force officers, especially the newer generation,[2] are trained in a variety of different martial arts, such as boxing, archery, judo, kendo, hōjutsu, bōjutsu, karate, etc…[17][18][19][20][21][8] In the current era, the Defense Force had long since shifted its focus to firearms because, unlike the days of close-quarters combat, they allow attacks from a safe distance, have resulted in fewer mission casualties, and provide the ability to eliminate a variety of kaiju using the appropriate ammunition in the appropriate situation.[22]. As a Japaneses Defense Force officer unleashes more of their suit's combat power, their ability to intuitively feel from the instant they fire, or from the recoil, whether their shots will successfully hit a target will increase, allowing them to fluidly engage other targets without needing to waste time or movement[23])
- Acrobatics (All Japanese Defense Force officers are shown to be extremely agile to the point of avoiding point-blank attacks without the other person noticing,[24][4] able to perform parkour,[25] leap[26] across cars[27] and buildings[28] even with the addition of heavy equipment under enemy's fire,[29] accelerate[25] without any issues[30] and make sharp turns without slowing down,[22] flips[5] that extend over tens of meters,[31] and recover their balance.[5] Even when surrounded by attacks from many directions, their agility allows officers to avoid them.[32] Additionally, Defense Force officers has shown multiple times to launch[33] themselves[34] great[32] distances[26] into the air[8] and land perfectly fine without any injuries.[35] They do not suffer any negative effects by moving in destroyed environments[30]. Even Kafka, the weakest officer of the Third Division,[2] could clear the 3rd Unit Valentine Tournament without a Defense Force Suit, which involves competitors holding heart-shaped objects that are as heavy as a 27-year-old adult woman while clearing various obstacles, such as crossing a wobbly suspension bridge while being shot at by bullets, walking past an acupressure field, jumping in through a ring of fire, and many more trials[36])
- Stealth Mastery (Officers are shown to be willing to use their surroundings, hide their movements, and ambush their opponents by employing methods such as using objects as cover and smokescreens generated by an attack[37][38][12])
- Accelerated Development (Training, Battle; Physical Statistics, Abilities. Defense Force officers with the potential or ability to scale the wall that people hit with unleash combat powers at 20-30% are able to grow far faster than a BoS Iharu that he can't keep up and are comparable to Reno during the Sagamihara Operation, the former with a mind capable of absorbing everything he studies and making remarkable gains in strength every time he trains to the point he felt invincible and his potential seemed limitless,[39] and the latter with the ability to grow at such a rate mid-battle that people stronger than him are unable to keep up with him and were quickly surpassed[40][41][9])
- Information Analysis and Analytical Prediction (Inexperienced fighters like as Iharu Furuhashi and Human Kafka Hibino, the latter of whom is known to have talents that do not fulfill the standards required to become an officer,[42] have been demonstrated to be able to anticipate Daikaiju-level threats,[8] such as Kaiju No. 9’s projectiles, which are unperceivable even to other Kaiju[43], after experiencing them more than once. This is in spite of the fact that, in the case of Iharu, the projectile had already been shot before he attempted to foresee it[9], and in the case of Kafka, he could predict a Kaiju No. 9[44][45] that evolved to the point that its actions are known to be unpredictable, to the point where Kikoru is unable to predict it through tells anymore[45]. Through using five of their senses, Defense Force Suit users can predict a target's movement[23])
- Acid Manipulation (Wearers of the Defense Force Suit are protected[40] from the highly corrosive acids within a kaiju's organs that can melt through protective clothing and human skin.[46] Furthermore, it has the ability to shield welders from the saliva of a kaiju of the lizard variety, which is of a highly acidic nature since it can melt bodies down to their bones[28] as well as iron[47])
- High and Low Temperatures (Defense Force Suits protect wearers from temperatures near or below freezing, allowing them to withstand the passive freezing cold energy of Kaiju No. 6[48]/Numbers Weapon 6.[49] Additionally, the suits can protect wearers from high temperatures, such as super-high temperature steam, which requires temperatures above 213 degrees Fahrenheit[50])
Attack Potency: Wall level+[Statistics Values 1] (Superior to Kafka Hibino, who doesn't meet the requirements to be an officer[42] and whose fitness is appalling compared to graduates from neutralization universities and colleges.[51] Could beat Kafka Hibino in an arm-wrestling.[52] In terms of physical prowess, Soshiro regarded him as a powerhouse and reckoned he’s top of his class in the Third Division, with the exception of Kikoru Shinomiya[2]), Building level[Statistics Values 2] with 15% (Reno stated that he has poor offensive power in comparison to those whose unleashed combat power is higher than his 8%[53]), Large Building level[Statistics Values 3] with 25% (With a 25% Full Release,[54] he should be superior to 20% Full Release Iharu Furuhashi)
Speed: Superhuman[Statistics Values 4] (Superior to Kafka Hibino, who doesn't meet the requirements to be an officer[42] and whose fitness is appalling compared to graduates from neutralization universities and colleges[51]), higher with Full Release (Aoi can increase his combat prowess even further by using Full Release, raising his Unleashed Combat Power up to 15%[53] and 25%, respectively[54])
Lifting Strength: Class 10[Statistics Values 5] (Defense Force Suits augments a wearer's strength, allowing them to lift and throw vehicles with one hand, break large shards of ice and jump tens of meters into the air. Defense Force Suits are bioweapons created from common kaiju, such Yoju and Honju, therefore users should be able to exert strength comparable to that of the kaiju, which are strong enough to lift and toss a light airplane. Additionally, they can lift objects that even grown adults struggled to lift, such as the Defense Force’s standard rifles which 0% Full Release aka Base Kafka Hibino stated to be “heavy as all hell”[53])
Striking Strength: Wall level+, Building level with 15%, Large Building level with 25%
Durability: Wall level+, Building level with 15%, Large Building level with 25%, higher with Shield (Defense Force suits can project a full-body shield with two outputs: normal and max, with the normal output being enough to protect officers’ physical bodies when in mortal danger.[25][55] Furthermore, by concentrating these shields in one place to boost their potency, Kikoru manages to weaken and stop Kaiju No. 9's attack, which otherwise would have pierced through her heart[6])
Stamina: Peak Human (His physical abilities are stated to be top notch, which was proven in the fitness test for the Second Stage Examination, where Aoi placed first out of 225 candidates, whereas a grown adult who frequently exercises and performs hard manual labor each day, was unable to keep up and placed 219th.[51] He is able to endure rigorous training every day for two months.[54] During the Sagamihara Neutralization Operation, he and the other members of the Third Division can fight countless numbers of kaiju being spawned with little to no rest, even when they are exhausted, from 0400 hours to daybreak)
Range: Hundreds of Meters with Marksman Weaponry (Defense Force Officers's effective range with standard weapons are trained to be able to hit opponents that are moving pretty fast in the head from four hundred meters away.[56])
Attack Potency: Mountain level[Statistics Values 1] (Capable of neutralizing Third Wave with PB-3115 in one attack[8])
Speed: Superhuman (After his training with the Second Division, he should be stronger than before[21])
Lifting Strength: Class 10
Striking Strength: Mountain level
Durability: Mountain level, higher with Shield

Kafka Hibino claims that people who use the Defense Force experience physical strain due to the bonding of Kaiju tissues to acquire power, which involves the synchronization of nerves,[57][48] although it is not as severe as it was in the past.[58])

Gifted (Aoi was a rising star at the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force and is a strong promising Defense Force troop member, standing out among more than 200 of his peers despite the fact that they are all elite students who attended neutralization universities and colleges across Japan and under normal circumstances would be executive candidates instead of aspiring field personnel.[51] As a former member of the JGSDF and a rising member at that, he should know the Japan Self-Defense Forces’ self-defense and fighting system known as Jieitaikakutōjutsu, consisting of hand-to-hand combat, bayonet, and knife fighting principles. As such, he should be more than capable of performing the techniques associated with the sighting system, such as striking, reversal throwing techniques, chokeholds, grappling holds, etc. Aoi is stated to have incredible potential, and his tactical ability is stated to be top notch. He has shown that he is more than capable of keeping up with Haruichi in terms of improvement,[54] which demonstrated that he is more than capable of scaling the wall that people hit with unleashed combat powers, a wall that only a few can scale because most officers will end their careers with their unleashed combat powers capped at 20 or 30%, unable to push beyond that no matter how hard they strive or how great their accelerated development is, such as Iharu.[41][9] This is further proven when even Iharu admitted that Aoi is much more gifted than he is and that the distance between them will only widen despite his best attempts to catch up.[39]
Martial arts, such kendo or judo, became mandatory subjects in middle school and higher education as a result of the government's curriculum modification for the next generation.[2] Soshiro complimented his kendo skills, stating that he is pretty skilled and reckon he’s top of his class in the Third Division, with the exception of Kikoru Shinomiya, as Aoi lasted longer against him in spar unlike Kafka, Reno and Iharu, who were all easily defeated in one strike each.[2]
After training with the Third Division for two months, he is capable of completing the Third Division live-fire exercise in 1 minute and 59 seconds.[54] The combat skills of the rookies such as Kikoru, Reno, Iharu, Aoi, and Haruichi are noted as quite exceptional, with Third Division general officers in their fourth years being astonished and losing confidence in their own abilities at their performance, and top-notch officers above them such as Platoon Leader Nakanoshima acknowledging their skills and stating that the Third Division is beyond lucky to have acquired such talents.[40] General Officers from the Third Division possess Unleashed Combat Powers around 20-30%,[53] making them more skilled than JSDF military officers, such as Aoi Kaguragi, who was recognized as the military's rising star when he first joined the Defense Force, not to mention capable of holding their own against kaiju[87] who is not only intelligent enough to predict Soshiro Hoshina’s movement but is fast enough to blitz him and knock him away when using 51% of Numbers Weapon 10's power — meaning that these kaiju are more than capable of blitzing and one-shotting the general officers[38] — and neutralize them. It was stated that when engaged in combat, he tends to go by the book and rarely strays from it.[52]
As a member of the Defense Force, they are the basic knowledge that is taught to each member. Aoi has been trained to search and attack his opponents' weak spots in order to incapacitate them as soon as possible[40] because Kaiju have demonstrated a near immunity to pain and injury in comparison to humans, as they have a core instead of a frail human heart.[88] Officers are also taught how to use the flanking maneuver in battle, whether it be single[49] or against a group of adversaries.[38] He has also been taught that shooting accuracy means everything when battling a superior foe.[11] In the Defense Force, officers are instructed in various martial arts, such as kendo, judo, bōjutsu, and possibly others.[17][18][19] When fighting airborne targets like Preondactyl, Defense Force officers are taught to use Freeze Rounds to cripple them by freezing their wings to prevent flight.[63][64] Defense Force officers are also well-versed in human and kaiju anatomy, allowing them to target specific parts of the body if necessary.[29] In terms of weapon skill, Defense Force officers are skilled enough to direct a kaiju's path to minimize casualties to buildings and civilians, isolating them so that officers don't have to hold back due to concern for the lives of others, thin out their superior numbers, or lead them into traps or ambushes.[41][13][89] Officers are shown to be willing to use their surroundings, hide their movements, and ambush their opponents by employing methods such as using objects as cover and smokescreens generated by an attack.[37][38][12] Adaptability is a crucial quality for someone to possess when dealing with Kaiju, as officers are assessed on their ability to take initiative and modify their skills to the challenges at hand upon joining the Defense Force.[53] Defense Force Officers' marksmanship permits them to land headshots on targets that, according to Soshiro Hoshina, move exceedingly quickly.[28] In addition, officers use bullseye shooting to hone their marksmanship.[54] When confronted with Kaiju that are either too swift or too strong to harm, officers learn to combine the appropriate parts of their standard weaponry to deal with them and not just rely on a specific weapon as it can trip one up. For example, they may use freezing rounds to slow down a Kaiju's movement while also weakening its defenses, making previously unsuccessful attacks pierce through.[15] When facing Kaiju, who typically dwarf humans, the initial instruction is to target the legs, as the goal is to bind them and prevent them from moving[90]. The standard opening move against a kaiju opponent is to target its limbs and head, but if they are moving too quickly, an officer should narrow their target to just the head in order to blind them by damaging their eyes and stopping their movement.[56])
Weaknesses: Overheating can be caused by the abuse or prolonged use of the power of the combat suit, which can weaken the wearer and induce physical agony to the point where they bleed.[50][29][34][22]
